RE: SOTW: Fiat Coupe 20v Turbo
Discussion
E46 330i stats
0-60 - 6.5s
60-100 - 11.5s
0-100 - 18.0s
1/4 - 15.18 @ 91mph
Fiat Coupe 20vt stats
0-60 - 6.0s
60-100 - 8.5s
0-100 - 14.5s
1/4 - 14.6s @100mph
Basically, a stock Coupe 20vt will beat a stock 330i over any straight line test. However, being FWD, standing starts aren't the Coupés forté - it's when rolling that the little Fiat comes into its own - check out the 60-100 times - the Fiat is THREE seconds faster than the beemer, which is a gaping chasm in performance terms. Once rolling, the Coupe is closer to E46 M3 territory, especially once it's had the ubiquitous G-Tec chip (around 30bhp) With big mods, the Coupe's 60-100 time comes down to well below 5 seconds
I'll happily admit that the 330i is a nicer drive though - they really are a wonderful car

I have a PDF copy somewhere of the Fiat coupe 20vt vs e36 M3 Evo. The M3 was nearly twice as much to buy but apart from 0-60mph that difference pretty much stays the same up to 155mph
So clearly any chipped turbo coupe is going to do the business.
Basically it's due to the low weight good power and the I5 giving it higher torque over an I4 of the same capacity add in VVC to allow it to rev freely to 7,500rpm it is the business.
How much is a concours example these days??? I'd want 5speeder they shortened the final driveib the 6 box plus third is much shorter. The 5 speed has the same 3rd gearing as a Zonda a Lamborghini .... A corvette trumps them all though with silly 135mph in 3rd in the C5/6

I once had an encounter with a Fiat coupe when out and about in my e39 M5.
I'm not sure if the Fiat had been fettled or my M5 was a little past it's best but I couldn't gain on it until we got to beyond the national speed limit. Rolling start btw, on private land.
Boom. Kind of backs up my C5 corvette v coupe experience. I'm not sure if the Fiat had been fettled or my M5 was a little past it's best but I couldn't gain on it until we got to beyond the national speed limit. Rolling start btw, on private land.
Good fun playing though
This was the second of two Coupe 20V Turbos that I owned between 2003 and 2006:
Although older than my first 20VT (1997 versus my first's 1999 age), the second one was running at least 300bhp - courtesy of its previous owner's upgrades to the breathing, intercooler, engine management, suspension and some other bits and bobs. The sound, driving experience and feelgood factor really made clear why this is so very much the poor man's Ferrari.
It was already outrageous value for money when I sold it in 2006 for about £5.5k. Looking at some classifieds now, you wouldn't get one like this for £1k - but £3k would.
I need to go back to having two cars soon, so I was tempted to chop my 2010 Audi S3 in for a diesel econobox and a mint Coupe. Unbelievably, it's barely cheaper to do this over getting a lightly used Fabia / Polo and keeping the S3 too! Beware 20V Turbo running costs, specialist servicing and "Coupe Paranoia" - they're no worse than any other high performance 15 year old car, but serve as a reality check for a sensible chap with 2 kids like me!

14.3, which if i'm not mistaken is faster right?
Had fun with with on of these back when I had my 330i in 2002 ish. I can confirm that they are very evenly matched in a straight line.
Read on this page, someone has kindly put down performance stats for both. Used to eat them for breakfast in my coupe when standard, especially the cabs, yum yum. Had fun with with on of these back when I had my 330i in 2002 ish. I can confirm that they are very evenly matched in a straight line.

The key about this car is it punches way above where it should on the performance stats.
Marmite look granted
Noise I'd struggle to see many PH not enjoy the engine being taken through the rev range.
Also 15 years old it still matches the performance of modern super hot hatches speaks volumes.

At 15yrs old I think the Coupe still looks great, especially with the side skirts, the leather looks great, but is slippy, as for handling you'd only notice any short comings on track or illegal speeds, its a GT as has already been said.
I wonder how long it will be, before someone reading this thread go's out and buys one

My Fiat Coupe 20 Valve Turbo
I wanted a Coupe ever since I was 19, (30 now) I saw a black LE fly by me as I was walking in Bournemouth, the sound was amazing.
I have had better handling cars but with some new shocks and springs that is cured.
The sound of the 5 cylinder is beautiful, the acceleration addictive and the looks great. I think adding the Le side skirts improve the look of the car greatly. The standard cloth seats are comfortable but do not hold you that well. a set of plus or S&M LE seats will sort that.
Never had a problem with torque steer, I think alot of people just cant drive, or have driven a coupe that has been thrashed or they expect to drive the same way in every car they have. I think cars are being ruined by lauch control, electric power steering.
Anyway back to the topic,
The FCCUK (Fiat Coupe Club UK)is the best and most friendly car forum I have ever been a member of. Someone will always offer advice or help if they can and the specialist Garages charge a fair price and Know there stuff.
I have had a few problems with my car but they were age related and were expected.
I was tempted to sell her a few months ago, only because I have never had a car for more than a year and I like to experiance as many as I can. But I was sat in a service station just after xmas and every Business man in his 60k BMW,Audi,Merc had a good look at my 2k Fiat Coupe 20 Valve Turbo.
I plan to keep her for many years, the only thing that will stop me from driving her is if we have world war 3 and Iran and Russia turn the tap off.

Indeed, the club is fantastic and fortunately a great team of guys really turned it around in the last few years. I highly doubt you'll find a more committed bunch of guys looking after the best interests of it's members and the model.Recently, it was especially pleasing to see the last of the bad apples of the old club board being forced to relinquish their moderator status following yet another conflict of interest between himself and the forum.
