I would get a Bentley Turbo R for wafting duties and a 911 Turbo for weekend fun. These two below would be perfect cloud9

Let's not forget £40k will get you an AM V8 Vantage.
Was about to post this. This is what I would get and then use it sparingly because running the damn thing is still gonna cost a fortune.
Or, (cheating a bit as it's not an official thinforth2™ poll option) I would get a £35k AM V8 and a £1k Focus estate for stter duty.

Panda and Seven. Except it wouldn't be a Panda, and it wouldn't be a Seven.

No, we just think that you are certifiable.

For the love of god, why?
+ a million. This thread must be painful seeing all the nice cars that could be had for £40k.

It would depend on usage.

Lowish miles and no need for passengers or practicality? A 996 GT3.
http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/3637195.htm

More miles and some practicality? RS4 and £15k in the bank.
http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/3589427.htm

Or a £10k M5 and £30k in the bank (or funf-fund?)
http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/3634711.htm

Loads of miles? A £5k diesel snotter and a toy.

This: http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/3240834.htm Perfect for high days and holidays, wafting around with top down, and European jollies listening to the sound of that AM V12.

And this: http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/3457558.htm For doing all the day to day stuff.

It wouldn't be my choice either, but you pay your money and take your choice, perhaps he liked it?

dont want some sloppy seconds exotic that's going to cost a fortune in parts and maintenance, and who knows what sort of history - ragged or worse smashed up, 5 years 60k warrantied driving tyvm

and i defiantly dont want a garage queen and to spend all day in a st box

all i see is a bunch of antique cars that are going to cost fortunes in maintenance or are going to live in a garage

i do 15k miles a year and spend 3-4 hours a day in traffic and i have 1 parking space and no garage and i certainly dont want to do it in some pos oil burner

That's an interesting point - the overall costs & depreciation of the Golf vs the same costs for a 360/GT3/Z06 @ 15kpa & 5 years.
but the golf is a fixed monthly, the depreciation just happens in the background, getting a 5k bill for a new clutch would kill me as i would still be paying the same monthly payment, and i doubt any of these cars would take the millage or the time i do trouble free and it would hammer there residuals

also i cant get my family in any of them i need 5 doors a decent boot, and i certainly dont want to sit in traffic with a manual
