Only I..

Somebody please recommend me more 'premium' insurers!
Don't laugh but direct line was always best for me, like i said though it was a long time ago before compensation culture pushed premiums up massively. I think you will need a specialist broker like pace ward or similar. Would be amazed if you got anything less than say 6k though....
Okay I guess it wouldn't hurt to try them, and thanks for the recommendation of the broker.

At 19 I used Auto Trader insurance - I'd steer clear of them if I were you, they decided to bump my policy up three-fold on the year's renewal (Impreza STi). In the past year I've had a VX220 Turbo and an M3, granted not of the same caliber as an R8 but I insured through Admiral and Elephant - they're both owned by the same company so should return very similar quotes. Come to think of it, a girl I used to see had a V8 R8 and was also insured through Elephant (she was 20). Always worth a shot!
Yeah someone who I know has an R8 but he's a lot older than me, he recommended elephant. But every time I try to do a quote, it gives me the dreaded error.

I would ring them up, but I don't want to waste their/my time. I'll ring them up if I run out of insurers.

Which company did you get the quotes off? And also have you got any NCB?
That's with Adrian Flux, £1200's too rich for me at the mo, I'm waiting till I turn 22, and going see if it drops a bit more, if not just track time for the time being. I have 4 years NCB on cars, and 3 NCB on motorbikes, no points(somehow).

I've never heard of 'self insuring' a private vehicle, pretty sure you would need third party cover minimum as a legal requirement. Don't think you can say its ok I've got 5 mill in the bank? What happens if you seriuosly injured multiple people? Costs could potentially be 10s of millions over a lifetime....
I'm not sure tbh, but I thought the minimum insurance requirement was £3,000,000 or £5,000,0000 3rd party cover. Can't remember which, but if that's all you need for cover, and you have more money than that, you don't need insurance, because you will be able to payout, because that's all an insurance company does shirley?

Obviously if one single driver was found to have caused an accident killing bus loads of children and bunny rabbits with Shark like Lawyers for parents this sum might not suffice.

I WISH my parents would buy an R8 for me..

But I decided to get off my ass at a young age and started a company, which generates substantial amounts of profit every day - Thats enough about me..

Most people are jealous, even my friends - What can ya do!! biggrin

I had an entirely reasonable £600 premium on a Maserati at 25 from Michael Ward Associates, not sure if they're still going as it looks like they trade under another name, but worth a quick phone call.

No harm in ringing them for a quotation. How long will it take - 10 minutes at most? Not long for you, and it's a potential sale for them so they won't mind.

However if you struggle to find insurers, I'd be tempted to go classic - an old 60s Mustang with a socking great supercharger should see you well, and girls love 'em too. At 21 I pay £600 fc on a 1981 Mini with a great list of modifications.

Do you already have the car OP, or are you about to buy it?

Don't think any or very few insurers will do online quotes for cars over £50k, you need to get to work on the telephone....
Yeah fair enough, I'll do a few phone calls once the other insurers have contacted me. Filled in quite a few forms so far.

Anyway, back to the question. If the OP is serious, PM me and I can perhaps send you a couple of contact details for 'specialist insurers' In the not too distant past I sold a couple of cars( think Tuscan and Sagaris) to some 'youngsters' one of whom happened to be a member of a very popular 'boy band'. R8 should be a pussycat compared to them.

Hi,

I tried 'emailing' you on here. But I'm a new member and got the 'Sorry, the email service isn't available to new members for the first 24 hours' message. Any other way I can contact you?

Also just to add, personally I would secure a nice house mortage free before spunking too much on cars. Businesses can change and you will always need somewhere to live but you don't need a nice car, if you can afford both then do it!
Ha, my parents said this to me earlier today. Just as a precaution.

You've managed to create a company that generates substantial profits every day and yet you don't know how to research for a couple of insurers of high powered cars for younger drivers?!

And you also seem to be ignoring the questions regarding what you currently drive?

'Maserati at 25'

Sorry, I didn't see you said you owned the Maserati at 25 years old, my bad. Ignore why I asked you.

Did you have any NCB when you insured with them at 25?
