Unexpected "wins"
Discussion
Many years ago I overtook a McLaren F1 and Thrust SSC (OK it was on the back of a wagon)on the same journey. That, of course made me a living driving god and my Vauxhall Cavelier Mk2 1.6GL a fire breathing monster of a motor.
Never been one for racing on the public highway personally, If faced with an idiot I generally creep forward a bit, rev the engine and move off at a nice sedate pace when the lights change ; much more fun.
I can only think of one exception and now there's one silly little boy who knows that a Caterham will have reached the posted speed limit before the front wheels of his fwd hatch have stopped spinning
Hope you enjoyed your half term break, better get to bed early tonight, school tomorrow

My MGB GT used to upset quite a few people. The didn't expect it to have a S13 200SX engine and gear box.
A lot of the upset people were probably members of the MG owners club. Hoyle-esque rear end with the original S14 diff.
No this guys talking sense, it's really surprising how little difference there is between performance cars and euroboxes. I was out jogging the other day and this Zonda driver was trying really hard but just couldn't keep up with me, I wasn't even trying that hard, and I'm only £70/day, not sure I'd be as fast carrying a passenger though hehe.

A while ago I had a traffic light Grand Prix on my own with but an 07-plate BMW M5 happened to be there. I was in a '91 Peugeot 205 1.4 XS.
Considering there was a much more than £30k difference between the value of our cars, I waspleasantly suprised for some reasonto find that he got to the next set of lights, about 300 metres away, just 3 seconds before me. The look on his face in his side mirror was a picture , as he tried to work how how such a heap of st was still on the road. Was his marginal significant 3 seconds over 300 metres extra performance really worth £30k more?
So it got me thinking, has anyone elsesuprised much more supposedly tried to keep up with 'powerful' machinery around town , despite the other driver not even knowing they were in a race?
Fixed it for you. You utter retardConsidering there was a much more than £30k difference between the value of our cars, I was

What did you win in this competition? The worst car accolade?Considering there was a £30k difference between the value of our cars, I was pleasantly suprised to find that he got to the next set of lights, about 300 metres away, just 3 seconds before me. Sometimes when I ride down the side of the runway at Manchester airport on my Specialized Allez "Elite", I am continually amazed how I get the drop on a 300 million pound airliner, for those first few feet I am in front, imagine how surprised that Emirates pilot is when his porky barge is kept up with, to nearly 20 mph by an overweight, middle aged, cyclist, how gutted he must be, I just need to work on the take off bit.
Ok, the point is that sometimes much faster cars don't seem to be that much faster, three seconds is an age at that speed even though it doesn't seem that long, its not like the XS is a milk float either, 0-60 in what nine and a bit, versus the M5 which was probably not being battered to within an inch of its life, perhaps a quick squirt and took six seconds, big difference between a full bore start with 400 (probably not on the full fat setting) versus 90 bhp, one involves a chirp fromt he front tyres and the other a massive pair of black lines.
I had a "race" with a Diablo in my MK2 Golf GTI, was a girl driving, just messing with me, epic fun, seeing it pull away and her slow down for me to keep up, I can report that a Diable probably doesnt handle roundabouts quite as well as a well set up MK2 on decent suspension, being 14 foot wide and a bit of a handful, hence why I nearly piled into the back of it.
As long as you both enjoyed it and it wasn't stupidly dangerous, its just a bit of fun.

Just so you know, only one of you was in the race.......My most "unexpected" encounter was when I was in the Chimaera and an XR3i Cabrio pulled up alongside. As the lights went amber, he looked at me. As the lights went green, he was still sat there looking at me, and when I pulled away nice and slowly he just watched. So I guess he was interested in the noise etc...rather than wanting a race.
