Ha ha, well done for completely missing the mark!

The 135i is very nice, but the back is too small for anyone other than toddlers.
TVR's are out of the question as I'm in Canada.
The 330i is a nice idea, just wondering if it's fast enough.

I think my ideal car would be the Z4M Coupe, but just couldn't fit the whole family in it.

Have you considered the Australian Ford Falcon? 4 litre straight 6, manual gearbox (in the XR6) and looks just different enough from a Mondeo. I can't find anyone that imports them, but it wouldn't be too difficult to get one on the road here I should think.
They are almost impossible to find here - I looked for them after driving plenty as hire cars in Australia but didnt find a single one for sale nor anyone who imports them. Closest I found was a company doing funeral cars using the FG Falcon as a base.

However much I wanted to stray from the obvious answer to my predicament, I think an E46 M3 is the one...
