nice, would be good to see toyota follow their lead, albeit with painted bumpers.

Best news I've heard all day, I just hope they keep it close to £16k... Even if Toyota offered the GT86 RC here I'd take the BRZ anyway because I'm not too interested in aftermarket bumpers and that. A white or maybe blue BRZ on bronzy-graphite coloured modestly sized Watanabes, yes please!

Considering the top spec BRZ is £26k there is no way the stripped version is going anyway near £16k...
£20k with slippy diff would still be good value

And a cassette player. It would be exactly like driving a car from the 1980's. Or the early 2000's, in the case of Ford.

I'm glad we're getting a stripped down version of this car. I was a bit funny when I found out the UK market GT86 will have a reversing camera as standard.

If the stripped out one is the same as the Japanese one then it doesn't have a LSD. the idea is that drifter/racers would put an aftermarket plate diff in rather than the OEM torsen diff

I suspect they'll offer the torsen diff as an option here.

I can see the market for a stripped-down roadcar - and by 'stripped-down' I just mean bereft of pointless st like ICE, electric moving things, aircon, cupholders, sound deadening, carpets and that sort of useless nonsense.

I'm not sure of the point of a car which needs an LSD fitted to work properly - that's surely a bit specialist? - a 'crate' proposition for tuners and race teams and not a showroom model??

Windey windows rock tho - there's almost no reason to put electric windows in a coupe (and no reason to put electric mirrors in ANY car unless you are billy no mates!!)

EVO report that for a fully equipped BRZ Subaru may charge around 5k more than Toyota's base model version that's priced at 25k. I doubt they'll take 14k off of that price just because the aircon's deleted.

The price difference between a Cup/non Cup RS Clio or RS Megane is only a grand.

I'm guessing 22k + on roads + LSD + alloys + sports seats as a minimum.

Golf GTI, RS 250 Cup, 1 Series hatch/coupe money.

The Harris video review showed that they're going to be offering a plate diff as an option instead of the Torsen...

Can't see that the stripped out version wouldn't offer the same options, especially in the performance oriented stakes.

Where do I sign? £16K for the basis of a tuning monster? Very clever marketing and I would seriously like to know some more. Another 10k spent (I would add forced induction) and you would end up with a very high performance car for a modest price.

I'm in thumbup

Auto Express say £26k.

http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/news/autoexpressnews/...

Which is £1005 more than the GT86.

And I'd be more inclined to agree with them - Subaru couldn't justify £5k on the price for a car with virtually the same spec.

I agree.

Still means they'd need to chop 10k off of the price to reach this mythical 16k purchase price and they're not gonna do that.

Lose a/c. alloys, slippy diff, elecy bits = 3k discount?

That's still 23k + ORC.

New or used the competition's fierce at that price.

Well done Subaru UK, 16k would be great wink

For that I'd be quite happy if it only came with a drivers seat, pedals, gearstick and a steering wheel (and maybe a seat belt so you can drive it home to replace the seats with side mounts!!)...loose the rest and keep the price ludicrously low. No ice, no electrics, no air con, maybe a heater box to demist in the rain, or better still a heated front screen and no heater. No airbags, no arch liners...make it so!!

The £10k difference is based on what Toyota Japan are doing with the GT86 - actual prices were posted up in another thread.
