Just what a 'proper' M car should be IMO. I like understated. They won't think that as you've passed them though.

I don't understand the interest in a 380bhp diesel, a truck yes but a car no. I'm sure a 530d is all one would ever need if it's got to be diesel. There's far better ways to blow £60-70k imo.

What's a bar injector?
'bar' is a measure of pressure equal to one atmosphere at sea level (you've probably heard of barometric pressure and a barometer? all related y'see) which is around 15psi

so a 2200 bar injector is just an injector that operates at a pressure of 2200 bar, or 33000 (ish) psi.. so about a thousand times the pressure in your car tyres. which is quite remarkable

But that 535i is lovely.. though i think to own one these days when anything over 5 years old is considered dangerously unsafe you would have to be a natural born leder. Hosen' it down on the weekend would be fun though smile

Sounds like it would be a nightmare if it went wrong out of warranty.

Personally i'd have the biggest non-turbo petrol engine i could, rather than a diesel with some tech from NASA bolted to it.

Yep exactly what I was thinking. You'd be a brave person to buy one in 5 to 6 years with high mileage. Mmm, turbo problem. Er which turbo? If it went wrong it would be stupid money. A car to by under warranty only!

This is what I had. I managed that much before giving up. It was barely warm. Pretzel was delicious though.

Some people want a fast car, but do too many miles to justify the petrol.
Count me in on that list... I do about 40k a year, cant afford that much gas... Most of the time I am just cruising on highways but, whenever in Germany, Austria, Swiss or Italy I do appreciate the extra hp...
That's one thing I don't understand , save money on fuel by spending a fortune on the car.

And 60 grand is a lot almost as much as the old M5

Could have sworn I saw one of these on the back of a transporter on the M1.

4 Star Classics had an M535i recently with <10k miles, so there are a few good ones still out there:

A few years ago I knew of one being sold by a friend of my brother but as I was still at uni there was no way I could buy it, even though it was a bargain. weeping

The market for this is clear. This is the car for those people who would buy an M5, but can't stand (either financially or emotionally) the cost of filling up the Petrol. That will be high mileage drivers mostly.

I think the market is there. Would it tempt a 'Petrol' M5 buyer away? They will all say no, but it will depend on whether it can deliver the same performance/urge. Torque figures would be interesting. My guess would be that it would be a tempting proposition for all but the purist petrol head.

2000 bar is the current norm for a 'premium' diesel engine. 2200 is quite a squeeze.

There are still some of us out there that can repair bodywork. If the main body panels are available, it's no biggy. smile

Ah that makes more sense. Stupidly I read it as bar as in bar of soap. Idiot...
