Bugger me - 7:26 !!
Me and a mate met the aforementioned "Red Baron" one quiet Wednesday evening session and had a good chat about how to improve our times - we were doing 9:15's and couldn't seem to improve.
Afterwards, buoyed up by his advice, we went out and did an 8:45, the Ducati logger even showing 153mph at the little rise before Schwedenkreuz(sp?), only 2 mph down on the video (although he was baulked by traffic) - but there is NO WAY I could keep up the commitment like that for a whole lap, especially through Wipperman - a) it was knackering and b) I was crapping meself!!
Happy days, but I must admit that I have "peaked" there now and shan't ever be trying to get a quicker time, if indeed I ever ride on there again - 2 years ago it was utter overcrowded mayhem, too expensive and too much carnage unfortunately?
The difference between the nutters and the normal. If that's an R1, it's been significantly geared down - maxed out at around 160mph.... some of the lines that guy pulled had me cringing - it'd still be like a red rag to a bull though - I bet there was at least one of the bikes he passed who upped his game and tried to keep up (at least for a short while) - lovely way to find out exactly how much like a limpet one part of the body can become when you encounter lack of adhesion on the grass run-off! Did look and sound absolutely amazing though..... (not worthy etc)
If what's an R1?ETA: The bike on the vid, I"m a doofus and hadn't read it properly. I was wondering about it (though misunderstood it to be the Duc') topping out so low too.

It's a decade since I lost the front at the 'Ring. Lucky for me it was a slow outlap in the wet so I walked away and the bike was repairable.
That's about when I had to acknowledge I will never be a riding god, and should settle for the pleasure of riding, rather than the need for speed. (But I miss it.)

I did my first and only lap in the drizzle at 6.30pm last September! It was at the end of a bike tour, and I suggested that my friends take it easy as it's notoriously slippery in the wet, and our tyres were very cold from sitting in a rainy car park for 2 hours for the track to open.
About the third corner in and my friend was standing at the side of the track with his bike on its side. I think it's safe to say that after seeing that I put in the slowest lap ever on a bike

He was taking more kerb than I use. And I only lap on Forza 4!
Car line is different to the bike line...With bikes you try to maximise power out of the corner.

the ring's mainly corners, with one huuuuuge straight - there's no point going for maximum outright speed because you'd get no drive through the corners, and acceleration between corners would be rubbish..... one of the benefits for bikes in the car vs bike thing is that we can "just" change our drive to wheel sprocket ratios for either top speed or maximum acceleration/torque and anything in between...ETA: The bike on the vid, I"m a doofus and hadn't read it properly. Wow. Just wow.
I've ridden a bike for a decade or so. Went to the Nurburgring last year and found it intimidating enough in a car (where I'm pretty comfortable, if not actually any good). Decided then that i wouldn't do it on a bike - it'd take a VERY long time before you knew the place well enough to do the faster sections at a decent speed without taking enormous risks. The grip varies wildly with the weather.
Maybe I'm just getting a bit pipe and slippers....
