RE: Ferrari 599 replacement leaks onto web
Discussion
The article pic looks like they sculpted the car from an oblong block of wood but forgotten to do the rear end. Strange how modern Ferraris look like the rear end was designed by a different person to the rest of the car and that no communication whatsoever took place between the two parties during the process.
I'm surprised at the positive reaction towards the aesthetics of this car. It's not a patch on the stunning 458. That front grill is overpowering and the sculpted forms on the side are overworked. I know Ferrari's aren't meant to be subtle but the lines of this car don't flow for me. Perhaps I'll prefer the more refined production version but I'm disappointed to be honest.
I'm not a Ferrari fan but have to admit they have got the styling sorted in recent GT models. But I just dont get the need for the sky high HP figures for a road car ...
I agree with Harry Metcalfes latest Insider commentary in the April EVO 168 ... less power but more fun factor from high revving engines please

... Hate the new family grille that it shares with the FF. But then again there haven't been any properly pretty Ferrari's for years so not really surprised.
Not a bad looking car but for years one thing has always puzzled me about Ferrari; why the stupid 'family' grille? Vauxhall, Ford, BMW etc I can understand - but Ferrari? .... come on. There is absolutely NO NEED for an FF to look like a 599. A Dino looked nothing like a Daytona but everyone knew they were both Ferraris. I think it all started with that Frank Stephenson chappy - or Stef-en-son, as I've noticed he likes to be called - who gave us the frog-like 360 (and subsequently revised that look for the MP4-12) and the silly smiley mouth on the 550/575/612 ... probably.sumpoil said:

Hmm...I suppose is a bit...Peugeot. Still, the old 599 looked like it was missing a chinDBSnappa said:
I hope that's a styling buck as there are some really messy and unresolved swage lines on that flank, particularly above both wheels, and the cut off at the rear looks more like the 550/575
Agreed, it looks like a car sitting within a car with those solid flanks, if you get what I meanMCBrowncoat said:

Like the old 406 couple that alegedly was supposed to be Pinninfarina's mini-Ferrari. Looks ok. Saw an FF in the flesh on the Edinburgh bypass last week. It's certainly dramatic but it is also huge. Aren't Fezzas just getting a bit big?cragswinter said:
i miss the old flying buttresses or whatever you called them on the 599
I don't. They always looked like a tacked-on afterthought to me.As for the new pic, I think it looks nice; aggressive front treatment from the FF on an altogether more elegant shape. This could be the first truly elegant Ferrari since the 456 and 575M.
