There is an amusing thread about this on the Autocar site here:

Some mental bird called Queen Vicky banging out a load of drivel and getting the other readers in a right tizz.

The car looks great in my humble opinion and I bet in the metal it will look even better. Based on the claimed performance figures it should be on another planet to the majority of its "real" rivals (ie proper GT's).

It just makes me even more excited about the Enzo successor now. It should be capable of space travel if Ferrari go as nuts with the performance as they have with the F620!
Looks like it's pretty easy to troll autocar users....
Haha, that thread is epic! "Rubricate" is my new favourite word. hehe

I'm surprised at the positive reaction towards the aesthetics of this car. It's not a patch on the stunning 458. That front grill is overpowering and the sculpted forms on the side are overworked. I know Ferrari's aren't meant to be subtle but the lines of this car don't flow for me. Perhaps I'll prefer the more refined production version but I'm disappointed to be honest.
I thought the same.

Did you mean the 458 or the old 456GT? That was a very pretty four-seater. But the 458 is something of a return to form, I agree.

Don't get what it is, but there hasn't been a really good Ferrari since the F355.
Why did they give it that stupid 'mouth' for a grill, and I'm not too keen on those headlights like they put on the 458

No.

I don't like the direction Ferrari design is going. I am guessing that the car will have a similarity to that 4WD van- thing from the front. This is not a good thing.

With new Ferrari looking a bit awkward. Astons looking stale. Who is going to make genuinely good looking cars these days?

It looks...horrible. Ostentatious. Ferraris used to be pretty (on the whole), they just seem to be catering for tasteless oil children these days.

Beautiful cars don't become 'not beautiful' because they get old, or something fresh doesn't appear....they 'good looking' If every car on the planet was a DB9, it'd still be utterly gorgeous.
Much like the 458 or FF IMO

That said Ferrari aren't immune to missing the spot....I'm looking at you California thing...

What happened to beautiful, cohesive Ferraris?

This one is really disjointed. The overall shape of the car is quite nice, but the entire front end is both hideous and bulky, every little detail is actually a massive detail.

Striking? Yes.
Pretty? Absolutely not.

This.

I quite like the rear in the photo, but the front is terrible. Also looks way too much like the FF, and both are OTT for GTs, where's the subtlety?

Urgh, there is that hideous front grill again, makes it look like a Peugeot. I agree with the comments about it being disjointed too, nothing gels at all, and the back end - well, let's just hope this display model is not finished!

If it were the same styling but shrunk down in size considerably I think it might look great. Just too wide as it is. I love the ridiculous power and performance by why not strive to have that with a more manageable size. The size just makes it seem less usable for a lot of areas other than the middle east and big motorways. It has absurd power/performance but the styling if not ugly is a bit boring. I wish Ferrari would be a bit more daring in the styling department - it's not understated like the MP4-12c (which I like about it) but it's not Lamborghini outrageous - it's just 'blaaaaah'. And yes it seems to have some fussy overly complicated designs in it's front that fall short. It sticks out because it's a huge Ferrari not because it has pushed styling to a new level. FWIW - I do like (or accept) the styling of the F430 and F458.

Brilliant thread! I love it when someone rocks the boat to fans (and the occasional owner) of something very few dare to question.

On a much more modest note, my inlaws ran an F355 for a year from new. VERY unreliable, comedy build quality (just try opening the front "boot" then gaze in wonderment at the blatant Fiat bits, etc) and a dog to live with. Dad's mate also spun his new 328GTS MANY years ago at Goodwood (I was there but only 8 years old). On returning I noticed a crease in the rear bonnet - the entire chassis had bent and it was a write off... Dad's 308GT4 (pretend Ferrari) was also a bit of a dog.

All sound great, go like the clappers but really are made quite badly. Look at an F40 (I've looked around one - nothing more) and you'll suddenly think a TVR is actually very well screwed together. Sounds like the quality stepped up a lot with the F430 but yet to have a good look around one.

Looking at the front end of this one I'm thinking Maserati.

On the supposed Ferrari, it looks like a Corvette mated with a Viper.

I think that is a Ferrari, albeit with some heavy mods to disguise it. I doubt the front end is actually body work, it's a disguise. You can see the Ferrari badge on the front quarter. IMO that's either largely a 458 with a small number of new components, or a complete underbody of a new model with a 458 exterior. Either way, the front lights are a 458 to me.

I agree that the F355 is one of the best looking Ferraris of any era. It's also a good car. It's important to distinguish between a good car, and a good looking car though. In my opinion, the Testarossa and 328 GTS are both great cars, but for various reasons they aren't considered great cars by a large number of people. Conversely, I once did 20 miles in a perfect condition 1989 412 manual which was an excellent car to drive, but one whose looks don't work for everyone (I personally think they look very good in silver or TDF blue with tan leather).

Since the F355 there have clearly been good Ferraris; I guess the 550 (introduced 2 years after the F355), Enzo, 430 Scuderia and 458 are the one that have attracted almost 100% positive feedback from the motoring press.

I think the 599's flying buttresses are a design feature which will be appreciated in the future, and from the images so far released the F620 lacks a signature feature of this type. The 599 (when viewed in reality, not from photos) has a very unusual shape unlike almost anything else. That said, I think the F620 looks good (relative to other cars produced nowadays at least - not sure a Daytona would meet any modern regulations) and it's great that Ferrari are producing an N/A V12 with that much power.
