I recon reasonable mk1 mx5s as there are fewer and fewer good examples around. Also they are dirt cheap now too!

On that premise no Capri, Granada or Cortina or bog standard Escort would be worth more than scrap now. In thirty five to forty years time, they will all be worth plenty. You read it here first!
Capris and Escorts were always popular and sought after and there is a big scene for old Fords. Those particular Pugs and Fiats that were never sought after and never highly regarded so will not go the same way.
Yep you read it here. wink

Four pages in, and no mention of an E34 BMW?

There are no cheap M5's (unless buying a heap), but I think the 525* Sport / 530 / 540 for sure.

  • although good 525 sports do seem to fetch good money already,

A Porsche 912 is a safe place to put money. Seem to be going up in price by about £1K a year at the moment.

Were around £6K when I started lusting after one in the mid 2000s. Now you'd struggle to find a good in under £11K

As 60's 911 values go crazy, the 912 will follow.

I have a gut feel about V6 Alfa 164s. I suspect they'll appreciate very well indeed, it's just a question of when.

(This does not constitute investment advice wink)

That ones been for sale forever. Hardly representative of the general 912 market.

Plenty for sale at less than a third of that price.

Seeing as Mk I and II Escorts fetch so much these days, how about unmolested moder Focus models - Not just RS and ST models, but bread and butter ones. Good clean 1970s Escort Ghia models and the like go for decent money.

By that reckoning, it will be 30 years until the classic value picks up on them, and either regulations would have killed off the point of non sporty old cars, or other factors will.

What about 996 porsches?

I saw a carrera for £8K in the autotrader recently.

Are these going to continue to depreciate or will they rally in the future?

(I'm kind of hoping that they'll continue to drop so I can have one!)

I have a dream....
and in that dream, I see
1602 BMW. E21 316
Porsche 924, Audi 100 coupe S
Renault 5 Gordini (or Gordini turbo)
Mercedes 250 ce, 250 se

I would happily have a garage filled with these cars. Forget your F430, Gallardo's.

It makes me smile when I read people on here (correctly) posting that unmolested examples of whatever cars they suggest will be worth the most in the future. Yet anyone who dares to post anything that may be at all critical of modding gets treated like this old chap:

It is the market comment on the fact there are loads of them and the fact that they dont have that air cooled "Proper 911" mystique, that and the RMS/IMS or whatever, oval cylinder decks and stuff, they are in 911 limbo, they can still exact a perfect wallet murder but I think the engine issues are a bit overstated.
