I was messing around wink

Anyway I have never driven a car with more intrusive "driver aids" than the Z4M, it's impossible to drive properly quickly with them on. It should have the intermediate DTC (I think that's what it's called) like the E90 does for everyday driving not a nothing and all button!

Indeed, even my little 130 has got that and I've come to love it.....

Close!

Sorry, I didn't finish the final part to this thread.

I started off the search for the next car as a weekend toy to give a bit of pleasure after Mon-Fri in a Golf. After loving my E36 M3, ideally I wanted a current shape M3 but £22/34k was a little too much for my budget.

Anyway, after all the searching and testing, I bought a diesel. And a bike.

The Golf went p/ex against an E92 330d Coupe and I put my spare cash into a 1098. So, now have a slightly more interesting commuting tool and a proper weekend toy. All of the cars I tested were great in different ways - in short, the SLK55 would have been perfect with a manual box, the Cayman felt muted but was sublime, Z4M brutal and a bit wayward. So, with none of them ticking all the boxes and the sun shining, I bought my first Ducati since selling the 916. Definitely a weekend escape from commuting and half the price of any of my original three shortlisted cars. The 330d is, well, just another diesel, but an Evolve remap may be on the horizon...

Beg to differ...sun is shining and 160 horses and 170kgs of metal are about to take me to the A272. Best ending to a Tuesday ever. wink

I had a 330d and a fireblade - never could get the theory of 'proper weekend toy' to work, stuck in the diesl 90 percent of the time

That's cause you never did the blindingly obvious thing and use the bike to go to work.

"Stuck" is not a word that exists in a bikers vocabulary when used in respect of the progress they make smile

I started off going to work on the bike a lot, but the rampant numptyism of rush-hour and school run drivers, plus the horror of seeing two fatal accidents involving dead bikers put me off using it for the commute.

Bloody hell I just spent ages reading this thread glued to the screen wondering which one of these 3 cars he was going to buy.

Then I got to the end and found out he bought a diesel.....

I just wasted 30mins of my life.

You sod!
:-)

PS. Alpina Z4 Roadster S LUX here. Much rarer than Z4MR.

Not as quick though! :P (beautiful car though. My friends dad bought one when it first came out and I loved it!)

Urm it does have a two stage cut of aids and how fast do you go on public roads not to get kicks with the aids turned on?

Only if you class on & off as 2-stage - it's not as 'complicated' as the system in the M3 or non-M Z4 so there's no 'intermediate' setting wink

You can be gently accelerating on a bumpy road from 10mph-30mph and the DSC light will flicker on the dash. If I'm on a Welsh hoon then I see it quite a lot as the car tries to ride out bumps.

Not sure there's much in it TBO, certainly not in real terms that I have noticed. At these small differences it is largely down to the differences in the driver on a track. Alpina is definately more comfortable as a daily commuter. Also, 30-33mpg and PLG road tax (£215 for 2011). Only 167 registered in UK.

Would have considered an Alpina version if they'd have offered a coupe (especially a V8S version), but they didn't, so I didn't tongue out

But then I'd need to slap on the Factor50, a baseball cap and long sleeves to stop myself lobstering.
