Audi S8
Until today I'd never heard of the 4.2 V8 aluminium barge with 335bhp that can be bought for not a huge amount of cash...
Any you can think of?
Great cars (I saw one today, as it happens, there are two local to me that I know of). Look out for the same problems that plague the Audi A8's:Until today I'd never heard of the 4.2 V8 aluminium barge with 335bhp that can be bought for not a huge amount of cash...

- dodgy repairs (the aluminium body panels can be expensive to replace)
- gearbox issues - I'm not sure if it uses the same box as the A8 of that generation, but the 4 speed auto from the early A8's is a well known trouble spot and can be extremely expensive to put right. A colleague of mine still talks about how Audi wanted £7000 off him to put it right!

I believe they're a 5 speed auto? I was so tempted to buy it, 49k, green with black leather all for 3.5k!!
Yes, the A8's later moved onto a 5 speed Auto box, the S8's may have used one all along. Great cars, but I would tread carefully as they have the potential go quite wrong and throw big bills, hence why my colleague ended up getting rid of his A8, despite thinking it was a total bargain from the off.

Gearboxes on pre 2003 in particular. Great cars, but I would tread carefully as they have the potential go quite wrong and throw big bills, hence why my colleague ended up getting rid of his A8, despite thinking it was a total bargain from the off.
