Surely this will be a massive hit with company car buyers?

Yeah who would spend that on a vauxhall when you can get a top of the range diesel golf for 40K
Good point, but neither appear to be particularly good value IMO.
Not really when 40 grand will get you a brand new fiat panda and a brand new caterham supersport

is this not the car built in conjunction with the Saab 9-5 they release last, before they went under?
No

This is the car developed with the Chevy Volt in the US. Its essentially the same car.

I have heard the name but never seen one. For an electric car it doesn't look too bad. But it certainly doesn't interest me.

It'll get an infinite number of miles per gallon under the vast majority of driving conditions in the UK, because it wont be running on liquid fuel at all.
No it won't

As the engine is forced to start once a month by the brain to make sure it still works

Anyway as we know from all the EV threads that the average journey by a pistonheader is 376 miles at no point has anyone ever had a 20 mile commute to a 9 to 5 job
Well OK, it'll get damned close. A tank of fuel would last me over a year, with my typical driving patterns.

If I ever take a company car rather than the cash, I suspect it will be one of these or something similar.

Was quite surprised when I saw one of these in Swindon a week or so ago.

Just as well it isn't an electric car

You can run it for as long as you want on petrol

It is the first really sensible hybrid since the Insight, I know of a very big fleet department that have been hugely interested in this since they heard it was being released.

The fuel economy test is particularly stupid with plug-in vehicles, though.
Hell, it looks like it is stupider than I imagined possible. That _is_ the official EU test combined cycle figure. They are _desperate_ to get EVs going.

I saw one near Staines last week and thought the same thing as the OP. It's not a bad looking thing but the details are a bit bling for me.

Not when it's £10k dearer than a 320ed it won't. Hasn't the US version tanked Stateside?

It is not the prettiest thing and it's riddled with new car disease (looks bloated, massive doors with tiny windows) but if it was on my company car list I'd certainly be interested.

Vauxhall do seem to have a range of 'underground cars' that sell in small numbers and don't get tested.

I saw a small 'off roader' thing the other day with a VX badge on, I'd never seen one before - picture below:

Thanks for that, I saw one of these last week and have been scratching my head as to what it was ever since.

Doesn't look too bad in the flesh but I can think of better ways of spending over 3 and a half million p.

I might be interested once the usual Vauxhall depreciation has taken it's toll.

Not when the ridiculous depreciation makes the lease costs astronomical. Sure, the company car driver will get a nice low BIK, but their company will probably never let it anywhere near the approved list.

Well this really interests me. Not quite sure why some are so quick to dismiss? Yes at £35k+ it makes no sense to buy unless you're an eco-warrior, but this could be a viable option in 5 years once the cost of the technology has decreased?

£1 to charge up for a 50 mile range sounds good and I look forward to when most people have an electric car- as long as the cost of petrol goes down so I can then have a v8 for the weekends!

Indeed. And from someone (above you) with a 520d... bleeeuurgh.
Don't forget the Kia!

I've only ever driven one Vauxhall that was any good, and that was made by Lotus.

There was an article in the Sun last week I'm sure about I think Hereford and Glouscester Police now using one as a test.

Saw one personally a few weeks ago just south of Oxford, decent looking car I think. A bit different, futuristic but not ott.
