My £40k wouldn't go anywhere near one. As a journo I want to support any kind of left-field activity because it makes the world a better place, but the A1 pushes the boundaries. As does launching it in a manner that makes it impossible to appraise. Those that buy them will have done so for specific reasons and won't care what we think.

That money on a daily-driver, I'd still take a BMW 1M Coupe. I think it's a brilliant car. Heads to classifieds.
He shoots - he scores. 1M Coupe can be done for £40K

That said, if Audi have sorted the torque split to stop it being a normal Audi understeer-beast, given it some "feel" and set it up to ride properly on real roads, it could be a fun car to drive.....
And the odds of Audi doing those things are.... laughsmile

Don't get it, 40k is the same price as an RS3 and you get way more Audi for your money

Sorry chris, Also don't get the video, it was rather dull and pointless. An Audo A1 slides on ice is nothing informative. Can you go back to spanking Porsches now please, less of the drifting as well, we know your a hand, no need to keep reminding us by doing the same thing week in week out. Your face mid drift looks like you've had an accident downstairs as well.

Peace and Love
Forget what he said... More video's more drifts EVERYWHERE in ANYTHING!!

Except FWD... lift off... thats just wrong. :P

I really think that there's something more to this car than meets the eye, what with the very limited run, the needlessly expensive and bespoke re-engineering and the silly asking price.

I'm convinced it's been put out there for homologation purposes for some sort of racing class, most likely WRC. A stripped out version would be well within the 1200kg minimum weight limit, and a de-stroke would bring it down to 1.6 liters without too much trouble and make for a revvy little number. Ditch the Haldex and replace the F&R diffs with fancy Xtrac rally ones, ala MINI WRC car, and away you go.

none, they are paranoid about people getting killed after the PR disaster of the TT killing all those people when it first came out

surely that's not the point thou

this car is to celebrate 30+ years of quattro, its for audi fanbois like me, its obviously not going to be used as a daily driver

How much does it cost audi to hack up a FWD platform and make it RWD on such a short run? Is there an RS200 type production line somewhere?

If I had 50k (yep id pay 50k for one) spare and a garage I would buy one tomorrow, with one condition they dont release a 4WD RS1/S1 or Polo R as this will kill its uniqueness

I love the 1M, its my favorite bmw, its the right size (the M3 and especially the M5 are just giant show off phallus cars imo) and huge fun, I came very close to buying one when I changed my car last october. But in reality its at best a 2+2 (i need 5 doors) and a manual just does not cut it in traffic any more.

you enjoy spending 2-3 hours a day riding a clutch? duel clutch makes a manual obsolete for such things, well unless you have your own dungeon wink

I'd be surprised if I spent 3 hours in a year riding a clutch.

Fair enjoyed that, not the best review or video quality but as a whole, very enjoyable to watch smile

Look forward to the next video, starting to look forward to them more than I do Sunday nights Top Gear ;-)
