Shiny black bits of trim instead of chromed bits of trim.

In years to come that plaque will have BMW enthusiasts getting all hot under the collar.
Doubt it.

The only decent plaque is on the E30 M3 220ps versions, individually numbered on a well crafted bit of kit.
Sport Evo, E46 M3 CSL are pretty naff.

Quite right. Fixed.

Ummm.... can I blame a lack of coffee this morning? No? Darn.

It's not as though I didn't spend plenty of time in the one we had as a long-termer either paperbag

New Plate Day still has a lot of meaning here...

It's the day that the next-door neighbours overpampered Citroen becomes 'not a new plate anymore' and I'm looking forward to that if nothing else smile

p.s. I've just looked out and the fker has put a private plate on it!! Holy st dude, buy a DECENT car and then care about it...

So, BMW are saying that they've not managed to sell all the "old 3-series shape" Ms, so they're going to go thru' the parts bins, stick kit on them and send them out as special editions to generate some more interest and clear their books. Hardly sounds enticing.

As much as many of us wished Audi made more RS4s, at least they've not just saturated the market with them, to the point that demand has wanned away and a not-so-special edition is needed to get rid of stock.

Love the colour, but to make a car collectable it needs a little more than a plaque. Afterall nothing has changed apart from you cant pick as many colours

I've been to Santorini and that colour is the colour of all the church domes! It's prob darker in reality but near enough. What's high gloss shadow line when it's at home?
When BMWs were still cool it was called 'Dechromed'.
When are you talking about exactly?

My '89 535i had shadowline trim.

I wasn't refering to the quality of the plaque itself.

I'd bet good money that in a few years time these limited edition cars are changing hands for a premium over the standard M3. You only have to go on the E46 forum and listen to people getting all excited about the BMW 330Ci Clubsport to realise that enthusiasts love anything that makes them think their car is a little bit more special than everyone elses.

What's the difference between that and Estoril (which I don't think they use any more)?

Let me help you smile The E30 M3 220ps ones are individually numbered and screwed into the facia panel. Made of good stuff too.

The Sport Evo is not numbered and was provided to be stuck wherever you liked, most cars did not stick them anywhere. Available on ebay smile

The M3 CSL was a tacky UK specific item that stated 1 of 422 cars produced ( for the UK - no reference to how many produced worldwide)in the last 2 qtrs of 2003, once again not stuck on in many cases, and so many cars ( many owners) don't have them at all.

I just chopped in my 996 turbo for an M3 with black M wheels. Wonderful until they get kerbed - which they do appallingly easily.

a shame the engine will soon be consigned to the history books. it's an absolute belter, 85% max torque available from under 2k rpm all the way to the redline of well over 8000rpm with a noise to die for.

a crying shame these great NA engines will be going.....

oh - and that silver engine cover looks awful IMO
Yes, it is a shame. At least Audi are keeping with a NA V8 in the new RS4.

On the other hand, we don't know for sure, and hopefully BMW will keep it in future M3s.

I'm sure someone on here will know.....didn't they have that trim on all M3s anyway?

The M Sport BMWs certainly do.....so actually perhaps BMW are telling us something between the lines...

Santorini is a deeper blue, and Estoril has a more metallic pigment to it... Santorini seems almost solid (at least in BMW applications).

Estoril was much nicer.. They should bring it back...
