I’m looking for some advice and views. About two weeks ago my car broke down, I had it towed to the garage and they explained that the Driveshaft needed replacing.
All well and good, so I paid the £600 and they did the work. Now just over a week after the repairs the car gave up again. When the AA chap came out he said that the driveshaft had come out, and the in his opinion it wasn’t fitted correctly.
So, my question is; what should the garage do about this? Should I have to pay for this to be repaired or is it their responsibility?

Thanks for the help.

Have you asked the garage yet?

Pretty clear that assuming it is the same driveshaft it was not fit for purpose as a repair. How did you pay. You can open a complaint and get the money back if its a credit card payment.

Tell the garage follow it up with a strongly worded formal letter.

Trading Standards may well take this up if you contact them.

I think you will get the repair done or money back. But it may take time.

The small claims route is the last resort. You would probably win, but this may not prove necessary.

If their repair was substandard (parts or the fitting) and they are a reasonable bunch, I'd have thought they would just fix it again at no cost to yourself. I know there are some horrible garages out there, but a reasonable one would probably feel slightly embarrassed that they recommended you shell out £600 for a repair and a number of days later the car turns up again at their workshop with a broken shaft!

They repaired the fault, but did not identify/repair the cause.

It’s not very clear what you are talking about, did your driveshaft break/snap initially and was replaced and later popped out? I presume you are talking front wheel drive for it to pop out, when turn full lock probably? If so, what’s happened is the circlip stopping the shaft coming out of the hub has failed or has not been fitted properly, I’d expect the garage to correct it fairly easily and free of charge.
Hope this helps.
