Frankly I completely sympathise with this view. Not just cars, so many products bought by people who know the cost of everything but the value of nothing. Then they complain when it is gone.

Perhaps not quite so bad with cars as they are still supplied by a dealer somewhere, but even so, it must be galling to have effectively made the sale for the manufacturer, but not actually get the sale. If you know what I mean.
They could always match the quote? Nothing to stop you doing that....

Well I'm not a dealer or a car salesperson, but aiui it all depends on how the dealership dealing with the internet broker is registering the low price.

I know some register the sale as a fleet sale which gets more discount, I don't know what other ways there are, but again one hears of things being done which are not straight forward John Bull.

Equally it could be that the poor salesman is working for a dealer who is not interested in discounting. Could mention one Skoda dealer that is notorious for not discounting, they seem more interested in their used sales and just use the franchise to provide income from service and give themselves some street cred above that of a normal used car lot.

In that case the only thing open to the salesman is find another job, and they do have the most remarkable sales staff turnover.

If the customer never returns to ask about a deal I agree - but if they do and you can't or won't get close then really thats just business isn't it? It's not like buying a CD on the internet versus a shop - the online places just broker a deal with another franchised main dealer who has similar overheads to you..

Once DTD has connected you to the dealer, you deal soley with the dealer. Hayselden Skoda were fantastic with me and actually helped me massively by sourcing me a car in super fast time.
I bought a Fabia VRS in 2006 from Drivethedeal, no problems either (and it came from Hayselden Skoda also).

Me too, I bought a VRS Fabia from them in 2005 (Simpson Skoda of Colne for mine), and my Dad bought an Audi S4. No problems at all.
We both tried local dealerships, but they were greedy bds saying they wouldnt discount at all.
My Dad saved over 5000 on the S4, and I saved about 1500 on the Skoda.

Local dealers don't really seem to be interested in providing a price match or getting even close.

I'm happy to buy from the locals but it's difficult to be sympathetic to a dealers price when the market is telling me I can buy cheaper.

I had something similar, one dealer was quite rude/aggressive towards me once I mentioned broker prices. I asked him if he would pay several thousand pounds more than something was available for elsewhere. He couldn't really answer that one.

I don't really see how the overheads argument works either. These cars are still coming from dealerships.

As mentioned earlier, some dealers are registering these as fleet sales, thus they get a different discount from the manufacturer. In the worst cases, you the private buyer are not the first registered owner.

For a private sale the dealer does not get the same price from the manufacturer, same way as the dealers get a better price for registering a car as a demo first.

Drivethedeal does not work like that and simply claims to use buying power to get the prices low.

I can see how dealers cannot exactly match a broker's price, but imo tnhey shouldn't be several thousand away on a normal vehicle.

I can also see how with contacts the broker is able to drop on bargains, perhaps where a dealer has a cancelled order, say. For example DTD last night had a Freelander2 delivery mileage only for not much more than my local Landy dealer wanted for a 1 owner fsh with 30k miles. One assumes the used price is negotiable but even so!!!!!!!!!!!

Bought my 2005 Touran through Drivethedeal - they were great. Car was sourced from Specialist cars in Aberdeen - delivered on a low-loader, all good. Great discount at the time too.

Highly recommended.
