I find it surprising that no one has mentioned the disparity between this review and the ones in every magazine. Every magazine has slated this car; saying it is really flat, disappointing and inert. This review is almost a over the top in how good the car is.
Says something about having our opinions influenced by journalists alone.
And that applies to all the 'haters' on here who have almost certainly never driven one of these. How can you slag a car off that you haven't even driven?
Ive read quite a lot of good press about the RS3! Evo - 4 stars, Top gear - good review, Auto Express - 4 stars, car Magazine - 4 stars, though Autocar only give it 3 stars but then again its not a Porsche or BMW so the would wink

Yeah, same here. I think the 1M only just shaded the Evo and Top Gear tests. I'm a big fan of fast practical Audis and M division Beemers so I'd find it very difficult to choose between the two if I was looking to get one. It would probably come down to whether or not I could get my two mountain bikes in the back of the 1M.

Weirdly this is one of my current "Lottery Win" cars.... It would be used as my run around to take my 4 and 2yr old boys to Nursey and to use each Sunday morning with a bike rack on it to transport my mountain bike to where I usually ride. The wife would have a big 4x4 family car/daily and the other cars would be 2 seaters, (F40, 458 Spider, 997 GT3 RS 4.0, Classic 911, Caterham R500)....

Well I would like to add that not only have I never driven this car, I have also never seen it in the flesh so you can take it with good authority from me that it is actually quite good, although doesn't handle as well as a cayman of similar money and is not as economical at a well specced 520d, also of similar money.

I would like to add that you can get a 2005 Continental GT, also for similar money which definitely has an older style interior but more power and a better 4wd system.

hehe

laugh About sums it up then!!

You forgot to add that it's not quite as practical as a Transit and is not prone enough to going sideways like a Morris Marina TC on a wet roundabout!

"It's too bland", "It's too expensive", "no it isn't", "yes it is", blah blah blah

I too think it's on the expensive side, but as a petrolhead, a 335bhp hatch, 4wd, 5cyl engine, very well made,"sounds" bloody great to me! If I ever have the pleasure of sampling one, I'll report back if anyone's interested, until then, I'll hand over to those with lots of valuable opinions about something they've never even seen in the flesh! rolleyes

I have an B7 Quattro Avant = dull but very easy to live with, comfy, safe, beautifully made and works in pretty much all weathers and circumstances.
Previously I ran MK2 Focus RS = very fast, sounded great, awesome to drive but sometimes felt a bit conspicuous and 'extreme' (I didn't really mind though biggrin)

The RS3 would be a great combo of the best of both these cars which in my tiny opinion is what Audi seem to be very good at.

Boring....

Would much rather spend that sort of money on a 1 Series M.

Looks better, and no doubt, drives better....

As mentioned by someone earlier the RS3 came 1 place above the 1M in the Evo PCOTY, so it cant drive too badly!

Great Q-car; that's the point. It's called subtlety.

Hope to get one at 3 years old, with stealth-spec wheels and colours, minimum equipment (to go wrong). Ideally, in green (my favourite Q-car colour).

Will liberate the requisite 400BHP from the engine, update the rear Anti-roll bar (less understeer) and change the suspension for Bilstein B8s + Eibach Pro-kit (lovely ride, great handling).

Then I will have a discreet, well-built, great-riding, great-handling replacement for my beloved, departed RS2 and beloved, current B5 RS4 smokin

You can keep your 1M. Lovely car, but I've seen (and been in) too many spinning BMWs to want that little "extra" any more.

Stealth car that will eat supercars! Not sure why its getting a bad response? I think this could be the perfect everyday transport!
Eat supercars? Ok mate, it's quick, but eat supercars? Really? It's a 4wd Hatchbac with 330bhp. I can't see it doing very well against a 458, or a Mclaren MP4, or a GT-R, or a 911 Turbo.

Dream on.

Needs 4 exhausts, and a proper hot hatch colour such as red or orange, you are paying £40,000 for it, who cares about it being subtle at that amount of money, you might as well buy a normal a3 and remap it if you want subtleness imo.

I agree with the GTR and possibly 911 turbo, but on the roads where I live Im pretty sure the Audi would be quicker than a lot of big supercars! Not exactly scientific but on the Autocar wet handling track the Audi managed 1.10.4 the Mclaren manages 1.19.10 and the 1M does it in 1.19.3
