Front fog lights out of fashion at last?
Discussion
My Golf R32 lacked them but I think it's because it had xenons?! Not sure TBH.
I did query a few chavs about the fog light on thing - apparently it makes the car look more aggressive; oh dear.
Our van turns on a single fog light when turning hard at under 20mph. Probably pointless butI quite like it!

God I hope so, the amount of 'FLW's around here doing the 'driving round with front fogs on and sidelights.'
I keep meaning to follow one of them one day, and when he stops, ask him exactly where he got the idea from to drive around with that lighting arrangement and why he thinks it's a good idea?
Anyone know?
Wierd thing is, it's not just chavvy kids doing it it's all sorts - I've even seen middle aged women doing it - WTF?????

Call me a mong but I always thought that real fog lights were as low as possible as that is where the fog is thinnest and they're most likely to be seen...? I also didn't think they were meant to aid the driver's vision, more as a belt and braces approach to make sure that oncoming traffic can see you.

Not allowed to say 'mong' anymore, see recent 'Ricky Gervais' outrage But anyway, fog lights generally have a wide, unfocused field of light distribution, often coupled with a 'diffused' type lense.
I may also be the 'M' word, but I thought the idea was to light the road and most importantly the sides of the road immediately in front of the vehicle, so progress could be made in heavy fog, no? Don't think they're there as 'marker lights' for oncoming traffic as a primary function?

My Rocco has Xenons and fog lights so that blows you're theory out the window :-)I thought it was for brake cooling but when you take the grill off you realise the airflow is blocked.
I strongly believe the R models don't have foglights because of styling and to give them a more aggresive front end.
My Rocco also has static cornering lights which light up a bulb on the corner of the cluster when turning below 20mph, I find it quite useful. Don't like the one fog light solution though, just looks daft IMO

They might be out of fashion, but thats only because those stty DRLs are all the rage now!
Most certainly this. And I think I'd rather put up with the bloody foglights.callahan said:
Yep, I have them on my Octavia Vrs unfortunately. I actually got someone today flashing his front fogs and pointing at mine as he was driving towards me - has he been in hibernation for the last few years, or was he just an idiot? I should have stopped him to politely enquire, but it took me a while to realise what he was on about.
No such trouble on my Mk.1 Octy VRS gladly.Plus the fog lights are built into the headlamp units too, which I like.
Never, ever use them though!

I hope so.
A young lad at work recently asked if I could "sort his lights out" so that he could turn on his fogs without his sides.
I politely advised him to GTFO.
Spoil sport you could have had some fun, like getting it to blow the horn everytime he tries to use the fog lights or activate the hazards. The fun could have been endless :-)A young lad at work recently asked if I could "sort his lights out" so that he could turn on his fogs without his sides.
