Front fog lights out of fashion at last?

They were nearly always sold on sports packs, advertised to make your car look sporty. Now everyone has those stupid DLR LED's that are just as bright but "legal"
To be fair the DRL's are bright during the day but when the lights are on they're supposed to dim. And I think they're actually quite handy for increasing visibility of a car. However the 'foglight f***wits' and slowly going to migrate over to being the 'stick on DRL d***heads'. Seems common among private hire cab drivers already and looks ridiculous!

To me the proof that VAG DRLs are too bright is the fact that they have to dim so that you can see the indicators.
I think thats actually quite a neat touch! va1o said:

I think thats actually quite a neat touch! My car has foglights, newer ones have LED DRL strips in the foglight position. There's a silly money Brabus option to have what looks like 4 foglights, 2 are DRL, 2 are fogs.

not helped by car makers making the switching arrangements so unhelpful.
on my 407 i cant have the back fogs on without putting the front ones on first.
Not sure what's wrong with that, my front fogs on both cars are so ste I wouldn't bother putting them at all apart from the fact I have to put them on to turn the rear fogs on.on my 407 i cant have the back fogs on without putting the front ones on first.
Drove in to work at 5.30am today in a peasouper and tried all different combo's of front lights in the Juke and decided that dip was best, fogs just lit up the verge 1 foot to the side of the car. Utterly useless.
I had a Volvo S40 a while back. The daytime running lights consisted of front headlamps on low beam, rear tail lamps on plus all 4 orange corner markers on.
I thought it was a bit OTT for daytime driving.
So I dismantled the switching unit from inside the car and modified it so I could turn everything off.
Made me happy, at any rate.
But not long after, I changed jobs so that I had a long mostly motorway commute into London and back. I began to notice that Middle and Outside Lane hog morons are slightly more likely to move over if you have your dipped headlamps on during the day.
So nowadays, everytime I roll down a motorway sliproad, I automatically flick the headlamps on for my journey.
Try it and see for yourself - it definitely works! So I'm a bit annoyed that these new DRL's will probably end up eroding my little advantage away to nothing soon

I remember the mk1 Focus used to have an on/off button mounted on the right hand side of the dash behind the steering wheel. There's a little light which comes on actually on the button however since the button is behind the steering wheel you cannot see that it is on when driving normally. I can't remember whether this was just for the rear fogs but it does mean there could be a lot of people driving around with their fog lights on without knowing.
I'm sure Ford wasn't the only company to have this set up.

Is there not a light that comes up on the dash too?I'm sure Ford wasn't the only company to have this set up.
I don't recall owning a car that doesn't have an indicator light on the dash right in front of your face for fogs?

that's the point, i was shocked to find that too. No light on the dash, just the light on the button hidden behind the steering wheel.I don't recall owning a car that doesn't have an indicator light on the dash right in front of your face for fogs?

I think some people don't think their lights are on until they see a lamp on the dash that looks a bit like a headlight. On most cars I have driven there is no light when just the headlights are on, besides the backlighting. An unscientific test but I am sure I saw no more or less front fogs being used in the last few days with dense fog, but still quite a few driving with no lights at all in quite poor visibility.I'm sure Ford wasn't the only company to have this set up.

Most certainly this. And I think I'd rather put up with the bloody foglights.Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
