It looks good but should be around 200bhp IMO. In this day in age 180 really is the bottom of the pile still.
Depends what it weighs, doesn't it ? Traction being the limiting factor, and the lighter the less traction, this could actually be perfect. As far as I know, the Fiesta is quite a lot lighter than the equivalent Clio so it might well deliver better performance with all that torque where the
Clio is so peaky. And the lighter car might give better handling and lateral grip.
There's always a little bit more than just the headline figure when assessing a car...even on paper.
Also, 180bhp from the ST version leaves more to come from an RS version
My wife had the Zetec S and it was a great little car. It was nippy with only 120 bhp, so with 180 bhp the ST should be quite quick. These cars are also quite light, at just over a tonne for the lesser models. As for pricing, don't forget this is a Ford, so a list price of 18k means a dealer price of about 15k.

Nobody mentioned this in the article
'while a Sound Symposer filters that best engine noise from under the bonnet into the cabin'
the very thought of that makes me sad.
I don't get the objection to sound symposers. Presumably it works like the Porsche 991, by controlling when 'naturally' occuring noise is allowed to enter the cabin.'while a Sound Symposer filters that best engine noise from under the bonnet into the cabin'
the very thought of that makes me sad.
If it works out so that you can have a snarling beast (well, by Fiesta standards) on your favourite B-road and a hushed cruise on the M25 it seems like a great idea. I'm all for as much split personality as you can get in a daily driver.
I doubt it is any different to the Focus pipe from engine to somewhere behind the dash. While the Focus ST does admittedly have a rather better starting point, it does work well and makes it sound a nice slice dirtier. On the inside anyway.
Festa won't have that, but as long as it sounds a bit fruitier without resorting to speakers, I can't see too much of a problem.

When was a new fiesta ST sold at a list price of £10k without any options?
I call BS.
I paid £10,700 for a white one with blue stripes in December 2006 (LR56XXA) with a few other extras a basic car with no options was available for sub £10k not list but available new with no miles hence the reason i purchased one.I call BS.
When i purchased my second one (ST500 for £11000ish) they were avaiable for around £9400 in mid 2008.
So although that wasn't the list price they were definitely available for that price new with no miles
If we could pick up the new FST for £13-14K I would buy one tomorrow for SWMBO

Just because it's labelled ecoboost doesnt mean its a green tree hugging car.
Decat, remap, boost increase and wahey, 200hp+.
Is their 3.5l V6 Twin Turbo Ecoboost "just EMBARRASSING"?
Why are there so many posts like this? Not everyone wants to shell out for a new car and then immediately start taking it apart, changing things and tuning it upJust because it's labelled ecoboost doesnt mean its a green tree hugging car.

Almost as bad as the "well, yeah but for that new car cost you can have a second hand Lambo / M3 / <insert car of choice>"

It's not a green tree hugging car despite the "ecoboost" engine. It does 60 in under 7 seconds which is pretty good for what it is!
Also, there will be factory mods available as with their other sporty models, and if you think that once they are sold on to the next owner once the warranty has expired and wont get modded you're in a dream land

Bearing in mind they recently announced that the 1.0 3 cylinder could make 177bhp I'm a bit underwhelmed with this. If their numbers are true fitting that engine to a Fiesta and focusing on make it as light as possible would've had made for a car with lot more appeal for me. Had a few 3 cylinder Polo/Fabia hire cars and thought to myself that if only I could have nice steering/handling, a chunk more zip and a bit more of that 3cyl engine noise coming through. Then it might be something that actually has proper driver appeal whilst keeping the Eco brigade happy.
