If it had to be able to do absolutely everything I could throw at it, I don't think you could do much better than a boxster or 911. If you could do without the "back seats" a v8 r8 would do me

What about a school run or a tip trip? I don't see how sports cars or supercars can be classified. They are unique and only serve a couple of purposes - to enjoy driving or to pose/show status!

Seriously?! Kids can walk to school and how often DO you visit the tip? Nothing a man with a van can't sort out if it's a big item or for a number of small items, you'd be surprised what you can fit in a sports car! smile

Yep, may I submit this?

Skud Octavia VRS.

Cheap to buy, and at 11 years old, still not a rattle or squeak to be heard in the cabin? Check.

Nothing ever gone wrong, and money only spent on servicing and replacing worn out parts to keep it feeling fresh? Check.

Pretty basic mechanicals, so easy to work on and service for the seasoned 'driveway mechanic'? Check.

4 doors, a hatchback, and a huge boot with a factory fitted cargo net plus seats that fold down to create a massive load area? Check.

Comfortable and quiet on long journeys? Check.

Nice, well-equipped interior with half leather seats that still looks 'as new' after 11 years? Check.

Good fuel consumption especially on a run? Check.

Reasonably fast, great torque, and genuine 150mph ability? (Ok cheating slightly here - mine's had a Revo remap to 210 horse). Check.

Handling - well, ok, fairly sporty, (not like my 911 I grant you) but good enough for a spirited drive anyway, and having done a trackday, for a car in this class is entertaining and quick enough to have fun? Check.

And in my opinion, in black, looks quite nice? Check!

In your opinion maybe, I personally find E39's a bit dull looking in comparison.

Always thought the ATR had aged very well, has a little look of Evo 7 to it I think..

Sorry to go of topic, but do people really do that?

Back on topic, um.....

or

maybe slight poetic justice

but just about every one i know in town views them as "planet killers" or Chelsea tractors, 10 years ago london was full of them but there a much rarer sight.

will be even rarer in a few months once ken is back in power as the first thing he will do is bring back his £40 a day tax for SUVs and keep the extended part of the CC zone.

Must work in a different part of London to me. I'm Chelsea/Kensington based and every other car is a RR/RRS, if anything I'd say they are more popular than ever. With the money in that area a £40 a day tax would make little or no difference IMO.

I've also never seen anyone being abused etc. for driving one.

I'm going to go left of centre. Holden Maloo. or Vauxhall VXR8 (if you have kids).

Fast, Plenty of space to chuck your stuff in. Easily tunable if you get bored and relatively simple mechanicals (with proven reliability) so you won't be holding your breath for a warning light to appear on the dashboard.
You do know they did a 4x4 Estate version!

Out of the cars I've had the most complete was my E36 328 Sport.

Reasonably quick, decent handling for a relatively heavy car, lovely engine note, comfortable, reasonably economical, reliable, plenty of space, it was a good car.

Tempted to get another BMW to be honest.

My E39 M5 get my vote.
Recently took the family on a 1000 mile trip up to and around The Lake District, using it for shopping at the moment, went to Wicks for some wood and other crap then did several trips to the tip last week and had it valeted today.

Seriously thinking about selling the Abarth and getting a RR on LPG for day to day duites.

looks good - matter of opinion.
fast - for sure.
fun - oh yes.
practical - yup.
comfortable on a long haul - and again.
not out of place on a track day - don't know but see above.
not too ruinous to run - Hmmm?

Regularly use it on a 550mile run from London to Aberdeen. I can either do 70mph and get there in 1 tank of fuel (30+mpg), alternatively I have been known to use 2 tanks of fuel for the same journey.
Sensible speeds it is very good fuel economy for a heavy car with the aerodynamics of a brick.

Marginally one step too practical for me but surely a 'Do everything' car! Good mention biggrin

This gets my vote as well. I'd like to nominate the Integra but room at the back isn't great and headroom is even worse laugh
