I had to have some fitted. It came without any - very hard to find extra buried deep in the options list.

wink

Find a BMW tech with access to the Puma database - get it checked out. VERY worthwhile.

Rear wheels need Hunter (laser) alignment - they are VERY sensitive to anything other than 100% straight. And then you'll kill your tyres inner edges.

Ditch the Run Flats ASAP - they are cr4p.

Enjoy!

A little known system (to customers) BMW uses that stores all BMW and Mini data - which is accessed with your ignition key.
They use it to check used cars and stores literally everything on every BMW - not sure when it came into use though.

Had mine checked twice - all fine. Had my Dad's (mk1) Mini Cooper S checked and it revealed a lot of previous issues. His is 52 reg so it must go back a fair bit.

Is this the system that logs mileage in the keys so you can check if the vehicle has been clocked?

Does it also store old fault codes that are now fixed?

Yep. It's VERY detailed. Flagged up two steering column replacements and a few other issues in my Dad's MCS. He got it checked out by an independent and it was 100% correct. My BMW Indy has the system - not many do as it costs a fortune.

It seems to be a bit of secret - very few owners seem to know about it.

Does it also high light remapping???

Everytime I take my car in they take the key put it into a machine ad it tells them what's due it even shows average milage per week for last 12 months and a few other things I couldn't quite see.

Frankly if it does what you say that's fantastic. Proper history all recorded makes a lot of sense for a used buyer but also really what does an owner have to hide??

I've heard of 2 steering columns (locks) requiring replacement in last week or so, approx £600-£850 as I understand. Both about 4-5 years old.

I'll try and get more info but I got to know a BMW tech on a forum and he checked mine and Dad's cars out before I bought them. VERY handy indeed. Don't know the full details but it certainly gave me piece of mind. I bought my BM with 16k miles on the clock and two years old but it had a rather odd history - bought in Bath, serviced in Swindon, was for sale in Leicester. Fairly normal mileage in its first year, almost nothing in the second. But it all checked out fine and has been utterly reliable.

Well, at least they are available now, even if they're not (or weren't) standard fit. I know radios etc. were an option years ago, but leaving indicators off the spec. for as long as they did was just plain wrong smile

Cheaper than the intensive therapy needed to cure the superiority complex, the need to tailgate everyone and the placation courses designed to suggest to the driver that he doesn't, in fact, own the overtaking lane.

I'm a one man smiley, wavy, courteous BMW PR machine trying to fight against the tide of BMW hate.

Except when an Audi is anywhere near me... wink
