first off I am talking about the knob on a KTM bike this morning.

i was in the right hand lane and wanted to be in the left, checked my mirrors, ktm rider 2 cars back going through the middle of 2 lanes, so stuck my signal on right away, and slowly moved to the left as the car i was pulling in front of was a learner (we are all doing about 20 - 25 at this point in both lanes).

by the time i was across and saying thanks to the learner for letting me in, the ktm rider is beside me revving his bike and shouting (i think he had a full face helmet on) he then swerves at me, which is not really intimidating in any car, even less when I am in the land rover.

anyway he proceeds to drive behind me round the roundabout, indicating with his hand i am a dead man, and then on the next bit of road he is beside me in the left hand turn lane, pointing at my car.

now i know it never helped as i was laughing at him, but the guy on the Yamaha sports bike behind was shaking his head at him, and when we were both at the next lights said 'that bloke was mental' which I agreed with smile

thing is, i gave him 2 - 3 car lengths notice, and signalled and never stopped him changing lanes, so I am not sure what he took such exception to.

anyway if by a slim chance you read this (i doubt you can smile) get a life smile

I don't think that two or three car lengths is enough notice. I'd have let him go first, before moving.

However, that doesn't justify his actions.

Was he filtering? Sounds like he was trying to go between you and learner. The guy on the bike always comes off worst so he really has to be sure that traffic isn't going to change lanes. I'd never do it unless it was a long, pretty much stationary queue. Even then you've got to watch for lane changers, that's what those little orange flashy things are for. He cocked up, too aggressive not defensive enough. Probably scared himself and took it out on you.

Little unfair!

I have good experience with bikers, it's just those chavs that go and buy a cheap hairdryer with two wheels that get on my nerves.

Had a similar situation last week where I was virtually doing the same thing. Bike was 2-3 car lengths behind, traffic moving at around 15mph and the bike a tad faster. I made sure there was sufficient space and indicated and he lifted off. Job done, no arguments or ****ish behaviour.

They're not all tossers.

That goes back to a post in the 'knob' thread, people see someone about to make a manoeuvre and either speed up or get in your blind spot just so they can have a confrontation.
Just ignore people like that, he must have for out of bed the wrong way.

Did you signal and move at the same time? Seems to be common practise on multilane roads, so the filtering biker doesn't get much notice. Mind you, if he was any good he's know you were going to change lanes before you did.

Doesn't excuse him from being an ignorant aggressive count, although that does seem to be the defining characteristic of the English nowadays.

It obviously bothered you enough to post about it on PH - when it really shouldn't have.
I cringe at some of my fellow bikers actions, but they'll soon grow up/learn. Best to just ignore idiots no matter what they drive/ride.

About 15 years ago I was on the M1 in lane 2 doing about 80 mph. I was comming up behind another car so I check lane three and it was empty both ahead and behind. Clicked on my indicator and checked behind again to see a tiny speck in the distance behind. Loads of space to pull out so I did. However that tiny spec was a bike and the rider appeared to be going for the land speed reccord judging by the rate he closed in on me. Obviously I was in the wrong and he flashed his lights and waved his arms at me for some time.

Sometimes filtering becomes blasting between cars, then they get aggravated when someone changes lanes, saw a group of middle aged fat boys on big BMW's last year going up Kingsway in Manchester and they were doing probably sixty in a forty limit and carving up the inside, I saw them and delayed pulling in but the lady in he Zafira in front didnt, she was indicating but had the audacity to make a perfectly legal move, at the speed limit (+/- 2 mph), rather than abort the biker accelerated through the gap at full pelt and they missed by centimetres, he took that decision to go up the inside on a car that was indicating. There was then a stand off at the lights, he in his frenzy to get her pulls up the verge and plonks himself at her window and swears at her calling for an f'ing C, she was sat there, kids in the car. I get out as doe the bloke behind to walk up, he calls us names as well despite me making allowances for his cretinous riding, he was fifty plus and old enough to know better, he felt intimidated so makes his exit, his parting shot was to spit at the woman in the car.

Car drivers can be very dopey, bikers are not special road Ninja's, there is no entitlement to be able to go as fast as you like, other traffic will be on the road and they need to take responsibility for their own safety and not rely on a harrased mum to see them when blasting though on the inside. there are many situations where bikers deserve to get angry but this wasnt one of them.

I think on average bikers tend to ride bette than drivers drive cars as they are, as a rule, doing it as they are interested but I also think they get really carried away due to the performance, and frustrated at other traffic.

There is a bloke near us on a KTM, some kind of Supermoto thingy and he rides like he is in some competition, only thing that bothers me is when he goes past me on my push bike, the git seems to back off and then open it up when behind me to put the wind up me, git biggrin

I had a biker on the motorway the other day absolutely fuming and wanting me to pull over to the hard shoulder with him for "words". The reason? I pulled from lane 2 to lane 3 (doing about 80) to perform a safe and legitimate overtake as he was steaming up in lane 3 doing "some" miles per hour and he had to slow down as he met traffic (me). There was plenty of room between him and I, and yet he took offence, and gestures were shared between us, and he was even more annoyed as I smiled and gave him the last gesture and he then steamed off into the distance, weaving in and out of the busy traffic. I hope he ends up in hospital.

Brain dead s. I wish I'd pulled over and got out holding my 6D Maglite now. </keyboardwarrior>

The majority of people are mental. It just so happenes that the majority of the mental ones have managed to appropriate a licence through whatever means.

I think, any road user, if they are vastly outside the speed limit they cant really complain if they have to slow down whilst other traffic goes about its business, doesnt excuse the other traffic from being alert and making sensible maneuvers but do 120/130 mph whilst homing in on other traffic on the motorway you cant really expect people to consistently anticipate your speed, they just arent used to it and the burden of responsibility shifts a lot more your way, not totally but definitely more.

If you change lanes when you can see he is filtering past you, you're doing it wrong.

I knew he was there, I knew he was going fast, and I also knew that there was plenty of room yet I wanted to get past the car in lane 2. I'd hoped he'd be happy to slow down, you know, to a speed that's less than double what's permissible by law, without blowing his top. I was wrong hehe

I think some road users get angrier at other road users' mistakes because they are using a different mode of transport.

Kind of modern tribalism really.
