So he sold his California sometime in 2011 did he sell the £12m 250 GTO? If so how much did he make on it?
Also given these top end classics are changing hands now so frequently of that car was your passion and you could afford it why sell it off so quickly.
Or is it much more to do with capital gains tax free income??? Me thinks yea. Good on him those are the rules of our tax system so play them I would if I had the disposable and the balls to take the risk.

He sold his stake in Virgin Radio for £85m a few years ago
He is in the rich list with £200m wealth. He sold virgin radio in the late90's after two years he took huge personal risk and somehow it turned out good. He risked everything ad it did pay off.
He has multiple income streams
His DJ role
Classic car buying and selling capital gains tax free
He owns eateries
He owns production companies
He owns many many multimillion properties around the globe
And other interests
Very smart chap and had his fair share of luck.
From what I understand he is a very generous person and has done well - I couldn't blame him one jot and if I had the funds to do these sorts of things I too would live my dream.
I was lucky enough to see / sit in / generally waste a morning pouring over an MC12 on a Maserati Factory tour back in about 2005.
They are, especially now, an ultra - rare example of supercar exotice - to make even an 'Enzo' look common.
Since that tour round the factory, despite attending lots of PH related shows and events, I have never seen another MC12, but have seen lots of Enzos, Veyrons, and other ridiculously high-end exotica.
MC12 = true supercar rarity and exclusivity IMHO
They also look the ABSOLUTE NUTS!
