Well if we're turning this into a "Chris Evans" thread I'll just say this on the bloke:

We went to the goodwood fos last year & mum really wanted to see him, when he was queuing up to take to the hill she went over & got his autograph & was really pleased. He looked really pleased to be there & was chatting with folk & generally having a laugh.

When they went up the hill we had a bimble around the supercar paddock when I had a thought-they'll be coming back to the Cartier style et luxe but with the cars soon we'll wait for them.

Sure enough here they came right to where we were waiting, when he got out we watched him do a piece to camera about the cars & was fascinating to watch him do it live, he definatly has talent in front of the camera-it's amazing seeing pros at work.

When he was finished he posed for a photo with my miss's, signed autographs, answered questions etc.

Thinking about it later, the fos must be a massive weekend for him & I guess he'll get loads of invitations to do some amazing things there & what does he do? Let a load of strangers drive his classics, spend loads of time with the fans & generally raise a ton of cash for good causes.

Top bloke!

(in fact so impressed was I that I bought his autobiographies to read on holiday & came away liking him a little but more-top books for the beach btw)

Famous person getting into nice car......why is this even worthy of a news story? Must have been a slow news day or somethingrolleyes
He's a celebrity driving a gas guzzling supercar rather than a Nissan Leaf. How dare he when he has a social responsibility to be green. biggrin

Never let it be said that The Daily Mail missed an opportunity to have a dig at the BBC however tenuous the reason for the 'story' might be.

£485,000 for an MC12?
Seems a bit cheap?

I'm not jealous in any way of his £200million+ bank balance, collection of cars, massive houses, and list of top quality notches on his bed post. Not jealous of that at all, really. laugh

As for the licence fee comment, even if he only had that income, surely its his wages and its up to him what he spends it on, the BBC pay him as people like him.

Daily Mail seems to exist to show you some transgression that "Brown People" are making against you, or what "scummy people" are doing and to tell you what you are dying of this week, along with pictures of non entities in their underwear on a beach, why is Nancy Dell Olio a story, isnt she some woman who had sex with Sven whatsit who is no longer news himself ?

I bet Chris does read PH, I mean, he is a Petrolhead and this is a Petrolhead website, I am sure he is utterly captivated by my tales of aged Porsche ownership. It si a shame that motoring "names" cant come on here without cans of custard, fawning and people not knowing how to react, I would expect Clarkson and co have the occasional nosey as well.

Chris Evans is an absolute LEGEND. Fair play. If I had a load of money I would also house a vast collection of cars. Also helps that hes a genuine guy and all that. Nice one Chris smile

Sounds a bargain for a rare car like that.

He's not worth anything like £200 mill - less than a quarter of that is a fair guess.

He didn't personally make £225 mill when GMG was sold!

Hats off to him - he's a proper petrolhead, and now that he's matured having money, a top bloke.

I've never really warmed to Chris' shows as I find him a little abrasive! But the guy is clearly a legend with his car antics - who else would take an MC12 into London and park it in such a tight space on a public road. It's pure gold. Plus he allows these rare cars to be viewed and experienced by everyone, rather than being tucked away in a dusty bank vault.

I think he should be awarded several medals for all of this.

J4CKO's got it spot on......And......think about it, Mr E isn't holding the Beeb to ransom is he, if they didn't think he was good value for money they wouldn't pay him what ever he takes for doing the job. Face it all of you critics, if Chris wasn't at the BBC he'd be somewhere else, he's good at what he does and will never be out of work. I for one was concerned a few years ago when I heard he was taking over from the Meister, Mr Wogan on the radio in the mornings but he's done a great job since he did. It's another British quirk aside from, fish and chips, talking about the weather and queing that we are world famous for, knocking the talented and successful, build up an icon then chuck stones at them until they fall down.

As has already been said many times on this thread, Chris made it big entertaining the public, in my honest opinion (IMHO for those irk's that do not understand the Queens English) he's an extremely clever guy if he can make big money out of an honest living (without dealing drugs, trading in armament, cheating people, hurting innocents, dealing in porn or indecent practices, stealing or crime or even running a corrupt bank stealing the publics cash in bonus's) and still have enough to spend it on, and sharing) his passions, then bloody good luck to the bloke!!

(Chris, if you're reading this, bring back "don't forget your toothbrush" one of the best Saturday evening ENTERTAINMENT shows ever, absolute proper family entertainment, far better than the 'Strictly prancing on ice doing a deal or not in a jungle with some 'B' rated forgotten skint ex-personalities' drivel that's on now).....end of rant, jeez, I enjoyed that!

The DM article is bad, but not sure if the article written in the Sun was worse

They had it described as a '125mph Supercar'

Fair play to CE, as like JK of Jamiroqui fame, he loves cars, so that's what he spends his money on

Bloody lovely motor. Not sure I'd have the guts to leave that out on the streets of London.

It wasn't designed as a road car that's why. It was a 'cheat' to win a race series.

My thoughts exactly. Nice to see someone use these machines and allow plebs like us to get a look at them in the flesh.

Can't stand to watch him on TV or listen to R2 show though....

His car collection is a great way of investing money to be honest. If I had the money I'd prefer to invest it in rare cars that will at worst break even when you come to sell them.
