I realise space is an issue but surely the filter will get clogged pretty quickly?

The turbo is right back, you would not want to drive that thru any water..

The turbo arrangement makes it totally impractical. Surely he could have routed it somewhere else - stuck it in the boot or whatever.

There have been 600bhp MX5's around for many years and they were using the standard engine block.

One guy was drag racing one in the states at least 10 years ago.

Can't really see the need to turbo an LS engine.

It will affect it but a big turbo on an engine of that size, I dont think performance is going to be an issue, suspect you are holiding on for grim death before the turbo starts boosting anyway.

Putting the turbo there is just odd! You couldn't drive it in the rain with the intake there, surely?

And you think he intends to drive a 632bhp MX5 in the rain ?

Because obviuosly you'd take out a 632bhp turbo-V8 MX5 during inclement weather rofl

I've seen systems like this with the turbo very far back before.

Does it not induce a massive amount of lag, as there's a (comparatively) huge volume of air between the turbo and inlet manifold that needs compressed?
The theories I've read say that you can reduce the lag by using a narrower pipe between the turbo and manifold to increase the speed of the airflow. Whether it actually works in practice is a different matter.

Rear-mounted turbos are a popular mod among American drag racers though, lag isn't really an issue there and the reduction of engine bay temperature helps too.

I'd have thought the drivers seat might get a bit hot.

This has to be virtually undrivable. Im aware of a 390 at the wheels bhp MX-5 and thats a monster, and not particularly nice to drive.

Surely the V8 would have been enough? This is way too much and I love MX-5s - I own one.

Lag isn't reckoned to be an issue on these rear mount turbos - there is a thread on here (or maybe was wink )
with a chap who intends to do a rear mount E39 M5 install.

It is a problem, people just desperately want to justify why they've done it. wink

One for the bad parking thread. Overkill, I love it.
