You mean like businesses that wish to remain solvent and independent?
the japs manage to get by with a very different pricing policy. my brother has just ordered a new GTR, there was very little to add to the 74k list price. they come fully loaded for the price, which is how I prefer it anyway.thanks to porsche my next lotus will come with 10k worth of extras. Not coming with aircon as standard is close to porsche levels of outrageous.
Surely you could just flip the argument the other way though....
Porsche could supply all your toys as standard but simply have a higher list price. Keeping the car basic simply means those who don't want all the extra stuff can chose not to have it but still get the car they want, maybe for track work or as a weekender.
Those that want the toys can pay to play. I'm not sure I get the ire on this one.
If all the stuff was standard people would be whinging the car was 'bloated' and had 'unnecessary' kit.

Which models did you have? I've had five Porsches now - all from new - and my experiences would lead me to say the complete opposite to you.
993 targa . Rust problems poor quality leather oil leaks auto gearbox failure .... Boxster 2.7 oil in coolant new engine paint and poor quality switch gear ++++++
997 smoking oil after short journeys sold it and cut my losses.... Before I ended up with another big porsche bill...
Luckily I avoided a 996 ... Otherwise I'd have another story there ...... 4sure
Like I said wait a couple of years for the new model to find the faults ..... Even then porsche have been known to just keep building with known issues and poor quality and design and potential failure rather than invest in rectifying the problems.
As with just 2 year warranty it become the customers problem and they make a tidy profit out of supplying the parts and labour....
Plus you don't say whether these cars were new and, if so, whether Porsche sorted the problems for you. And the 996 comment is pointless - unless you have a 'retrospective' crystal ball!
Most Porsches puff out smoke on start up btw.
I used to have a 986 S in red, and always thought it was the best colour for the Boxster. I only sold it about 12 months ago and I still miss it. I might just have a quick look at the configuration tool on the website...
Also, love the videos, I like the detail in the reviews. However, one thing I've never understood, why do you need 1 minutes worth of credits for a 10 minute piece?!

Do you not think the GTR is something of a loss-leader?thanks to porsche my next lotus will come with 10k worth of extras. Not coming with aircon as standard is close to porsche levels of outrageous.
If Lotus were the same as Porsche, then they too will be a big part of their national car manufacturing programme, they'd have factories everywhere, they'd have happy employees, happy customers and happy shareholders (the recent Porsche hedging debacle notwithstanding).
Instead Lotus have done the usual UK think and spent all their time lurching from one financial crisis to another and presumably completely failing to attract enough happy customers, shareholders and employees.
Not saying everything is perfect at Porsche though, and I agree with you about the air-con.
Stunning looking car, not at all effeminate unless you buy it in white!..I think the standard car with few extras would be my choice and looks cracking value at just over 38k. It is a sports car and does not need any 'luxuries' or stupid oversized wheels adding to it. I was looking for a 993 this summer, but may now compromise my car buying ethos and go for a new one of these. My mate has had a 2002 model since new and it has been fantastic. He has no intention of selling it and now it at last has the looks to match the driving experience..
I watched the review over the weekend. I really fancy one of those Boxsters - in bold red, of course. Porsche eve had the good sense to launch it on God's own roads.
I really like the Drive channel. It is varied (don't really care for the talky pair) and Chris's reviews are intelligent and interesting.

Saw the new Boxster in the flesh at Goodwood.
Interior much improved, agree with that, although I never minded the simplicity of the previous, nor ever wished it was a more luxurious car when driving it.
But the exterior was a definite step backwards. I thought the MR2 likeness was a bit of ph banter before seeing it but yes, it really does look like one!
The previous car had a fairly paired back look to the general curves. This one has much more 'volume' about it, especially at the nose (is this euro legislation nonsense?). Where the previous car took cues from the Carrera GT, this one appears to have grown a likeness to the unequivocally foul Panamera. Anything that reminds me of that eyesore could never said to be in any way good looking. I'm no fan of porsches generally and wish you would all at least try british cars before lining german wallets, but acknowledge that the boxster/cayman is a fundamentally decent car and understand why they are so popular but I was really disappointed by the styling, especially after all I had read.
Anyone who thinks it's better looking than the previous car should get their eyes tested.

While I respect your opinion, the new Boxster is widely considered to be an outstanding success from a styling view, so your comments seem a little odd, however if we all liked the same things the world would be a dull place, and I will admit to being slightly biased in my view.Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
