I'm about to buy my 4th Mondeo in a row.

As a means to reliably shift people/things from A to B, they do the job perfectly well. I only really change them when they stop passing MOT's first time, and start needing more than routine maintenance.
I had a 2000 Mondeo GhiaX 2.5 which got written off. It was my first family car after having my son and I loved it. Fast enough, comfortable, huge boot, well equipped and handled pretty well for a bigger car. I replaced it with another 2.5 Mondeo although that was the next generation, saloon not hatchback and in Zetec guise so technically a bit different! Decent cars but both of them suffered the same snapped front suspention coil and sub frame bush replacements which became expensive so I sold up for an Accord.

I agree with the principle of RYL's view that life's too short to replace a car with the same model, but the obvious caveat is duration of ownership. Several times I've replaced a car with pretty much the same model, generally because I get more clued up on the particular marque/model and an opportunity comes along to trade up at no/mnimal cost. I agree that life's too short not to try different cars, but my overall ownership duration is unchanged (last time I owned the same marque/model for 8 months, but had 2 different cars). My 'second' car has always been better than the first, and I've never regretted changing.
Yeah, good comments there too - and I'm not saying it's a bad idea per se, just that I enjoy the occasions of the time to change my car - and as I'm not exactly rich, these occasions are pretty rare for me, so it would perhaps be a minor anti-climax to do it for the same model.

Getting a different car is always fun - learning the vehicle and it's switches, cubby holes and little tricks etc.

I tend to keep my cars for a long time though - never had one for less than about 4 / 5 years. I normally spend cash on getting them driving really nicely - new suspension bushes if needs be, decent shockers and springs, some nice discs and pads, braided brake lines etc. so once they are up to spec and really nice to drive, and I am completely familiar with the car and know that there's nothing that is about to go bad or needs replacing, I struggle to find the heart to think about selling them!

I get really attached to my cars after a while - guess that's why I spend half my life on here too biggrin

Sad case!

My dad traded in his 1999 Mk1 focus for a 2004 facelift model.
He then gave it to me for my first car.
He is currently looking at another focus..
