Sure i read that the new 320D does 0-60 in around 7.1 secs. I know 0-60 isnt everything but 7 sec 0-60 is basically hot hatch territory and its a lowly 320D which is just as fast as a hot hatch but with RWD, pretty amazing i'd say! not sure on the MPG figures though but i'd assume with it being the 320D they are pretty decent.

Let's not forget aerodynamics, makes quite a difference at motorway speeds.
Only if you drive to fast tongue out

But a valid point I admit.

Not interested in these kind of compromises forced on to us by inept government and high taxation, hence I moved to the USA for some brief relief- although this country seems to be heading the way of socialst facism heading towards the dilluded green dream also.

Im considering an accord type r. Probably not the most econimical, buy its so much car for the money that I can take the fuel hit. It shouldnt be too bad driven nicely.

Atleast thats what im telling myself.

Hmm, that depends in my experience. If I drive my Elise, (860kg, 189bhp) down the M4 and over the Severn crossing into Wales, and you follow me in my Saab (1740kg, 250bhp), the Saab will get marginally better fuel economy than the Lotus. Low drag and an efficient engine pulling long gears. If we then take the scenic route across country to Aberystwyth, and I drive at a speed the Saab can just about keep up with, you'll be lucky to get 20mpg while the Lotus will still do high twenties.

The official figures look like this:

Lotus SAAB
CO2(g/km) 208 214
Urban (cold) 23 21.9
Extra Urban 41 42.2
Combined 32 31.4

They both do low to mid thirties on a long motorway run, the Saab slightly better. Day to day, the Saab has been averaging 26mpg with my wife commuting to work in it and the Lotus has averaged 30mpg since I bought it. It's interesting to compare what two radically different cars with fairly similar official figures get in reality.

A new 328i? 45mpg combined, 0-60 5.9 seconds and no crappy diesel dag.
Crappy diesel lag you say?

Perhaps you can explain why my A5 has a 0-60 time of 5.7. Although 0-60 times are hardly the measure these days. Overtaking is the measure I look at.

I've got a M reg 1.5td Corsa that cost 400, does over 500 miles on a 47l tank, I can service myself. Then for the weekend when I want to have fun, I've got a Integra Type R.

our polo gti is pretty impressive, mid 6s, it certainly feels faster to 60 than my R32, it is returning a genuine 40mpg and 110 tax disc

the 200 in oil so far is the killer lol

I was referring more to the original poster who appears to suffer from a chronic case of "PH cliche syndrome"
