Otis - if that floats your boat do it laugh
JB - I looked at R36's they are even rarer than VXR insignia's and it would need to be a tourer as the boot aperture on a saloon is too small.

http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/sales/3672851.htm

An M5 Touring:

http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/sales/3725620.htm

A Maserati Gransport:

http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/sales/3718332.htm

A Turbo'd Porsche:

http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/sales/3431544.htm

http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/sales/3737196.htm

hehe

gonna trawl some more and see what pops up, alot of cars, but not loads that give the impression of B-roads AND M-ways... Also I have never driven any of these, just rummaging through what I think should be able to do both tasks and handle racking up some miles. (except the last one biggrin)

My Maybach does me fine as a shed for to and from work. The 'chrome' body finish takes a bit of cleaning, but it gives my driver something to do whilst he waits for me.

laugh good work!

That golf R is a nice spec but over priced IMHO
S4's are both out as they are saloons
That M5 touring is superb - what a find! bow
The Gransport is nice if a bit over priced, nearly bought one a few years ago - lovely sound! (not a work car though wink )
Same goes for the 996TT as well!
That Mk2 Escort would be a great 3rd car whistle

There's nothing in that list I'd pick to be honest. 335i would be my choice.

25k a year mostly on motorways and you want a petrol because petrol is cheaper than diesel?

If ever there was a car that should be diesel its a 25k a year motorway "work beater".

Why not look at golf/scirocco TDI 170? Judging by the cars you have listed and your requirements I'd say that's your best choice.

My spreadsheet says different - using local fuel prices a Golf R is 290/year cheaper to run than a diesel C30 D5!
Not to mention ALOT more interesting wink
The M5 might cost a fair bit more though laugh (ETA 3.6k/year extra frown )

laugh
I put it in as a bit of a curved ball
Does 47 mpg with 180 BHP the turbo and supercharged 1.4 engine worries me slightly confused
its a great car, but its a warm hatch not a full out hot hatch like the R Golf or GTi

more worryingly is that many seam to burn oil like crazy, ours has done 6ltrs in its first 7000 miles!

25k miles per year?

has to be a luxo barge - 730d or something even if it's not 'fun' to drive it will be more 'fun' to be in with the toys, massaging seats etc.
