Great car, had one in grey. Superb sound as well. Not sure about red, or the velour seats.

Aw man, I LOVE these cars. They have an air of understated elegance. I'd love to have one - I already have my poloneck jumper and pack of cigarettes bought and I'm working on a neatly-trimmed goatee as I speak.

Well spotted Griffit.

Regarding the museum sale, perhaps the SAAB heads could tell us who the Wallenbergs are?

the Wallenbergs is the family that owned SAAB before it was taken over by GM.

It's the Low Pressure Turbo version, seriously down on POWER!
Easily rectified - stick in a stock intercooler and a cheap boost controller valve.

The turbos don't usually fail it's the gearbox which can spell the end, you often see them for sale with "occasionally jump out of gear" in the advert.
That shed looks pretty tidy to me.
With mine (An '85, 1st year of the twincam, and it was Red) it was the gears themselves that jumped out, right through the casing! Luckily avoiding teh engine...
243K miles over 15 years, up to 36 never below 20 US MPG, no noticeable oil consumption, original turbo all the way!
It's 3rd tranny was on the way out when I got my WRX. SAAB to Subaru, it's really quite common. Ten years later I still occasionally reach to the console for window switches, and I always engage reverse when parked smile

Bought this lovely example for the ex a few weeks before I showed her the door.... Don't ask why, she kind of suited a good old school lads classic...... Why I let her keep it is beyond me

It had a fortune spent on it, new gearbox from Saab, fully rebuilt with all the right stuff, updated suspension and brakes....... Etc etc..... 'twas a gem!!
She on the other hand, other than being ridiculous naked, was totally mental......

[quote=GraemeLambert]Shameless picture posting alert...

Here's my old one

Riggers can testify to what he thought of that particular car, having been a passenger in it a few times.

Wasn't shed money though, I spent thousands on it over the 7 years I owned it. Around 260bhp, 280lb/ft, LSD, Bilstein B6's etc by the time I'd finished. Lots of uber rare or desirable Abbott Racing parts on it too.

Supposedly it'll be back up for sale in a few months - probably on here. You'll need around four times the shed's value though...

That is absolutely stunning.

I'm now wishing that I never sold my mint red saab 90 for 250, 10 years ago lol, I remember it had a lovely set of Ronal alloys, the things you do when your skint.
Especially now that there is only around 30 on the road, I never had the chocolate gearbox problems but then my car only had 100bhp.

Bought one like this for 400, ssmoke around in it for 6 month, put a new headliner in for 50 of material (fiddly job though!) and sorted some rust and paint for prob about 40 in stuff and sold for 1100 (did look great when finished)

Should be a good bit of bangernomics and even the oportunity to make a few quid
I really like these 900s, but I'm ashamed to admit that I had never noticed they did a 2 door coup.

Some more - less pistonheady - cars

very nice to drive --- the first was stolen from my lock up - so if you see it ... can't be many 8 valves 900i with new headlining and leather in odoardo grey in near mint condition- let me know

And an interior shot - seems to be none of those - and they are quire special inside

On the topic of gearboxes, that on my LPT has recently let go (cracked casing, oil loss...). Does anybody have one lurking in the back of a shed? smile

I'd second the vote for the auto version - 3-speed slushmatic and enormous turbo lag led to epic wait...wait...wait...lunge! overtaking exercises. Quite possibly the most hilarious thing to drive, but lovely; sadly mine was trashed by some yoof one night and went.

I've had several of these, as well as a couple of 96s, a 99 turbo (which was so rusty it basically had the back end cut off by the new owner), a couple of 9000s, and so on. Around town they are a pain over traffic calmers (long front overhang, low valance, lower sump bars), but somehow nothing quite feels the same when you sit inside and set off.

I've just got to decide whether to repair the 900 or put money into my Land Rover (as well as a 6x6 amphibious project and an 80s Alto Duo), as I'll soon lose some of my parking... difficult, as every time I've been without a Saab for more than a few months I've found myself on eBay hankering after anther one.

I was talking about the nose smacking down on the far side of the traffic calmer; people expect modern cars to be able to drive over such things at (at least) 20mph; in every C900 I've had this hasn't been possible. If you do it too often then the whole front of the car will bend up slightly...

I'll see your tan leather with Dover grey Steve (and 9k aero seats, Nardi wheel etc)

And some more "pistonheads' style shots of the car

Spank it!
