Prompted by the rx8 VAG 20v motor thread I got to wondering about some interesting engine swaps.

A while back I saw a Porsche 944 with a Rover V8, but other engines I thought may be of interest to go into a 944 would be:

Subaru boxer turbo
VAG 20v turbo (should be pretty straightforward?)

So, what car / engine combination would you go for? (without huge modifications e.g. LS6 into a mini smile)

I'd like to see a Alfa 156 Sportwagen (Estate) converted to RWD, with a Ferrari V8 in the back. You could use an import 4WD 156 as a base.

Got a nice day out planned for Sunday, if you could drop it round by then.

Vag in a Porsche, not sure about that, would probably be very effective though, Porsche did thoughtfully put a turbo engine in the 944 themselves, could be an interesting conversion though.

Rover V8, if you are going to all that trouble it would have to be a decent variant or perhaps, a 928 V8.

Always think the Volvo T5 engine is probably under used for transplants, as it is plentiful, cheap, robust and can be made to produce a lot more power.

Trouble with the 944 is the back axle/gearbox, after a certain point they dont really handle massive numbers and putting another box in the conventional place ruins the balance.

Ok not an engine swap, just an observation. The new Audi A1 with 4x4 and 265bhp costs 41k !! How about picking up a used Polo Gti (older one) with the 1.8T engine for circa 4k ish. Tune it easily to +300bhp and fit a quattro AWD transmission to the chassis to make the most of its new power. Should be nippy and fun!

I was following a prius the other day and was thinking how much I would love to put something like a V8 in to one of them and have a green peace sticker of the sort in the rear window.

Or one better has anybody ever actually modified a prius out of principle?

Hasn't managed the quattro system but ticks the 300bhp box http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VOLKSWAGEN-POLO-1-8T-GTI...

Things I'd like to try in the back of an Elise or Exige - the Renesis from the RX-8 (for the weight and the refinement and the noise), an Alfa Romeo Busso V6 (for the noise).

F20C or K20A or Renesis in an MX-5

I'd like to put the 1.8 T-sport engine from the Corolla into my Aygo. Probably easier and cheaper to add a turbo though. frown

Being done right now by Paul at Woodsports. Long-term and tricky project it seems.

6 cylinder diesel engine from a Dennis truck into an R32 Skyline GTR. The engine's are very similar in size, and 1000bhp+ is achievable from it. Just purely to be different.
