RE: POTW: Jag XJS at Goodwood
Discussion
I love the XJS. I know in real terms it's not very good by todays standards, but I love it anyway and I've always wanted one. I also had this sneaking suspicion that with that enormous engine there had to be the potential to wring really silly performance out of it... maybe it wouldn't be very subtle through the corners, but it would be great fun to turn into a quarter mile monster.
Or there's this which is the history of the XJS Racing programme.

O/T: Camaro's sponsors - TEAC - were my sponsors in the Tuscan Challenge in 2000/2001. I had no idea they had 'previous' in British motorsport.

Jaguar raced an XJ-S in the States with 570bhp but I'd imagine a Group C engine would also fit so how does the idea of 745bhp grab you?I have run a 1982 V12 with slight engine upgrades/ecu and getrag manual gearbox for last 12 years, it was my daily re business use as well, it has full bodykit, XK8 wheels etc and gets hammered by hot hatches now, but it has real style and presence.
Fine old cars and now coming back to favour, I seem to think the germans particularly fond of XJS - all models as well.
Full TWR XJS 6 litre/zf manual made only 5830 last month at Barons, someone had a real bargain as it looked very well uptogether and had history as well.
Dick Johnson was in the 5 litre mustang, with Peter Brock in the Holden Commodore that year. The TWR XJS (5.3 litres by the way)of 84 won the European Touring car championship beating the BMW 635 csi factory and privateer teams. Walinshaw was on pole in 85 that years James Hardie 1000, with Jaguar Australia fielding three cars. it was an Aussie, John Goss who took the win for the team with Tom in Third after having to pit for a massive oil leak. The other Jag expired early in the race after a stone broke a headlight and the glass found its way into the inlet tract damaging the engine. I even have an old Autocar or Motor magazine with a full test including figures of that Jag on Silverstone gearing, very impressive numbers as well. Saw at least five of the races in 84, including Donnington where the jags were monumental. Inspired me to own a couple in the past.
