So I'm selling a car on ebay. I've tried to be honest about it (car was having problems, but for last couple of hundred miles has been running fine).

I reckon the car is worth about 500 quid... And with about 80 people watching its now ticked over the thousand pound mark. It finished tomorrow at lunchtime and I can see it going for 3 times what it's worth.

Now obviously, most people would say be happy. But I don't want to feel like I've ripped anyone off as I've had that happen to me frown and it's not a nice feeling.

I'm not hard of 500 quid, so when they get here do I tell them or send them a message now? I don't want to provide a link on here as I don't want you lot taking the piss by placing loads of silly bids as I DO want rid of it.

So yes, anyone had experience of this? And what did you do?

Can you PM the link? I promise I won't bid it up; I'm just intrigued.

Have you described it accurately with all faults and all? If so, then leave it.

If you've wrote an honest listing and detailed the faults and people haven't read it then it isn't your fault it is theirs.

However so many utter tards use ebay that even if you put in the title the words 'car so knackered it will be unlikely to get you home' some fool would think they were getting a bargain. The ability to read and comprehend what is written on the internet is only just above the use of correct spelling and an attempt at grammar on the average internet bargain hunters to do list.

I think so. I've said it's pretty tatty and was used to haul garden waste about. I've said it's got an engine warning light on and a problem. I personally wouldn't take the car for free. I did use one of those floor cleaners on the seats today though... I even cleated the caked on mud of the plastic.

No that's the one I got ripped off on. smile

Actually thats running really well now. Once I've got the sump thing fixed and the blowers blowing I think I'll have a good car.

Well, email. Click on the user name, and then on the right is a link that says "email me" which goes straight to the inbox that the user registered with. It gives the sender's email address though.

I've sold (accurately described) tat on ebay that's gone for way more than I thought.

New owners have been blissfully happy.

If it's as described don't worry.

If it is the one in the picture, it is definitely worth more than 500.

I'm pretty laid back on here. And am happy to have the mickey taken or be told I am a moron etc...

But I specifically asked for the link NOT to be shared.

And it isn't worth more than 500 quid mate. The car has been used for transporting waste and all sorts. It's also had a problem where it overheated. But as that isn't affecting it I didn't state it, as it isn't a problem now.

I went out of my way to say that people should view or call me before bidding...

Nice work from one internet smart ass.

at the request of the OP
I'm not at all shocked at the price that has gone to.

A 1.6 diesel estate car that will take the whole family and stuff, needs the EGR valve cleaned which isn't a huge issue, I'd expect it to end closer to double the current price TBH.

I'd be more than happy to shove 500 into someones hand if I needed a workhorse.

How True. How True.

Still the best way I know of to buy and sell most things.

There are muppets about with both buyers and sellers.

But I have sold and bought literally thousands of items over ten years.

Never ever had a problem. Not once. Not ever.

Up to date photos and described correctly. Postage included in price, or collect only.

Generally job done.

"Fresh with my new tool kit I decided today to take out the egr valve from my horrible 407 car. I read online it was a nice simple job, and that you could do it yourself. Being a nice innocent type I stupidly believed these people on the internet and set about completing the jobs myself. After about 4 hours I have managed to take the egr valve off and put if back on, there my success ends."

"I have taken this to a garage and was told that the EGR valve will be sooty and that I could have it taken of or cleaned. However I have never seen the need to do this as the car still runs well"

If everything is described well I don't see the problem, maybe make some money back now and cover the costs of the megane?

I guess any buyer coming to cllect will inspect and pay accordingly. I think 500 is under what it is worth as well as someone else said, even with a fault it's got to be more as it does run?

I got 800 odd from WBAC for a 02 Volvo S60 with a blown intercooler, knackered alternator and in really really poor condition for instance.

PS can you say you were ripped off on the megane when you drove it home faulty and negotiated cash off for the fault wink - just view this as a way of covering some costs smile
