Wow, that does sound like a diesel. Good luck with it, sounds like it's going to be in need of a major rebuild, but if it's only got 5000 miles on it I'd be asking for a new engine and a hell of a warranty from Audi. Think of the potential damage to the cars value too - a new engine would be a good thing but I think many casual buyers would be put off by an ad saying "car had a new engine at 5000 miles".

IME dealers aren't interested in rebuilding engines: too much time/effort, AND neither they nor the manufacturer have the facilities to do so. And there's no way in hell a manufacturer would have a third party rebuild the engine: too much trouble should a warranty claim (be it with the car or the work) arise.Is it too late to get your money back?
