Second Prize: 2 Weekends with a Peugeot.
rofl Oh dear, this caused a LOL at work, had to pretend it was a cough...

My first car was a 205 GTi, so I should have a soft spot for Peugeot, but their insistence on releasing increasingly ste and ugly cars has extinguished all of this. Not to mention the worst dealership experience I've ever had, where I took my car there (Yeomans Peugeot in Worthing) for an MOT in my young driver naivety and they ended up giving me a bill for £900. They dropped a bolt into the cylinder while replacing an inlet manifold, which I hadn't instructed them to do, and had to hire a 'specialist' to remove it. The car only cost me £600 and I was broke, I tried to tell them that I hadn't told them they could do any of the work and they said I couldn't have the car back until the invoice was paid. As well as being thieves and fraudsters, they were a horribly unpleasant bunch too.

£250K on Peugeots, poor, poor man. I'd tell them where they could stick their hot air balloon...

Speaking of the fragility of Peugeot cars, perhaps the government could persuade them to sponsor the hard shoulders on our motorways :-)

PH Slow news day?

STOP PRESS!! "Man buys cars he likes"
So 23 cars over 20 years, for four. Say his kids have been driving for 10 years ish.
8 cars for him
8 cars for her
4 cars for eldest
3 cars for youngest

Looks like the kind of person that buys a new/nearly new car, runs it for 3 years then chops it in when the warranty's up. I.e. 70% of the car buying population.

OK, I'm not a massive fan of Peugeots (Though I am looking for a 205 Dturbo at the moment smile) But it's not my money. 90% of people don't care about a "dab of oppo". He's found a dealer he thinks treats him well, he's happy with the service he gets and the cars he buys from them.

So they got him a bit of a pressie as a nice gesture.

What did you get your mum for mother's day? Flowers? A teddy or CD? She's brought you up for the last two decades! Why are your presents so heartless! You should have bought he a car (not a peugeot wink)! She's being taken for a mug!

Guy in America puts a million miles on his Accord - Honda give him a brand new one.

Guy spends way too much money at a Peugeot dealership - they give him nothing more than a test drive.

One of those is rewarding brand loyalty and one is just a test drive.
Maybe, unbeknown to us, there are dozens of people out there that have spent 220,000 GBP on 22 cars in the last 19 years and if Peugeot were to give this guy a car, they would be setting a trend that could cost them a lot of money... I mean, you know, it could be possible. No?, OK I'll... getmecoat

So a normal, probably fairly hard working guy is careful with cash and pays mortgage off in his late 40's. Spends some of his disposable income over the following 10 years ensuring his closest family have a new modest safe car every three years.

I agree its a bit of a non-story. But its refreshing to see a dealer getting praise and genuinely happy customers. He is clearly delighted with his Red Letter Day voucher and a weekend in a car he wouldn't normally consider.

OK most PHers wouldn't consider a modern Peugeot, but back in the real world many people do. Get over it.

Why exactly do people feel this is:

A) Anything out of the ordinary?
B) Reason to rip the piss out of the poor bloke and his wife? They'd be mortified if they saw some of the unjustified, offensive and tasteless posts on here!

It looks to me like he's been a good hard working citizen who is looking after his family in his retirement. Top bloke.

I like a laugh as much as the next guy, but a lot of the comments from people on here are absolutely disgusting.

So here we have a guy who has a shed load more money than most on here, and who can afford to spend £10k a year + a 4 yr old trade in for a new car.

(4 cars in the family, remember?)

He likes the cars, they're new, they come with 12 months tax, no MOT worries, probably come with 12 months insurance, and he's found a dealer who treats him well, unlike 95% of all dealers.

A nice, little "slow news day" article so PH posts it.

And what do the P(rick)H Massif do?

"He's bought a normal car, what an idiot" - Yes, like the other 95% of the UK population. People have different tastes, likes, dislikes. If you can't deal with that, it's your problem.
"Dealers taking him for a ride" - As you obviously know the exact trade in values, discounts given, freebies given, please show details.
"The loyalty bonus is a joke" - What do the fleet purchasers get over and on top of the discounts? Crate of cheap champagne? I'd rather have the break and use of the RCZ. The buyer is happy. End of.

And as to those calling him a gay, inbred, gimp just because of the above. Christ, what morons.

I actually hope this post is a plant by PH to get all the morons to post. And now PH has a nice list of loser names that can be banned to improve the quality of the PH forums by about 500%!

Excellent!
Well said. There are some on here that are too far up their own arses.

All, we certainly certainly don't post stories like this with the intention of deriding a chap for his personal choice of car. That's his call, his choice, and it's not our place to insult him and his family.

What we found amusing in this piece is that the chap has gone to the same dealer for 20 years and 23 cars. And the reward just isn't that special. Certainly not special enough to PR-out to the likes of us. They could have given him a car if they were going to make a publicity stunt out of it and not look miserly.

So let's lay off the personal insults, and keep it to giggling about the less-than-spectacular 'prize', eh?

This must be the stupidest man alive. I mean, who buys a brand new peugeot every year and pisses thousands of pounds down the drain?

A new Alfa or something interesting, maybe - i can understand why something with a bit of personality would make someone loyal. But a Peugeot? they've made an unrelenting crock of st for the last 10 years.

Who is the daft one ? the bloke in question or me with my ancient Porsche that has some "characterful traits" and needs constant fettling and packages from Ebay, the utter terror of a rust bubble or strange noise versus buy it, run it and take it to the dealer if it breaks.

I know I am not the only one, I am guessing this chap is not well aqaunted with the underside of his car.

Yes, and it pays for a service you need, I'E to live a society were some big hairy bloke can't come round to your house, throw your skinny arse out and shut the door in your face, and then live there happily until and even bigger and more hairy bloke does the same to him etc etc

It might come from your tax, but its his money, that he has earned, you only get to earn your money because you live in a lawful society which he is paid to enforce the rules of
You really believe that?

With constant tampering to the law the police are no longer to protect and serve, and the justice system - well that's a joke isn't it?! Seems to be tailor made to help criminals get away with st.

Unless the criminal passes a camera and is the legal owner. Then he's screwed.
Might not agree with your opinion there, Globs, but you are of course entitled to it.

Let's keep such things to the politics forums though, eh?

That was my surprise too, it shows how over funded the public sector is.
Can I ask how you obtained the following information?

1) Purchase prices for all cars
2) Trade in values, or sale values in the case of cars sold on privately after the family finished with them
3) Contributions from family members for cars purchased for them
4) Lease deals, where cars were leased rather than purchased outright
5) The gentleman's salary
6) Any inheritance or other monies obtained from sources other than paid employment

I could go on. But, of course, you have absolutely none of this information.

Makes your post look rather silly, doesn't it?

Hardly a great indicator of what constitutes a 'good car' - the French buying a French car! At least if it was Alfas they would have a redeeming feature, like they're good looking and good to drive.

I think most people on here the 'problem' is that Peugeots are ugly, dull to drive, lardy, quite expensive (for what they are), fairly flimsy interiors and generally unreliable. In fact you give me one redeemable feature on a 308 for example?

ETA - having said all that, the guy is intitled to buy whatever he wants and if he's happy, which it looks like he is, the what is the problem? Most people on here, by the quality of their posts it seems, will never be happy!

Lots of French drivers would not agree with you and I cannot recall seeing rows of abandoned broken down Pugs on my visits to France.
As for what makes a good car, every person has their own opinion on that. The worst car I ever had was a BMW 320.
The best is my CRV
Oh, the 308 gets lots of people from A to B in relative comfort and speed. Would I buy one? Not at this stage of my life, but who knows what the future may bring.
