RE: Brand loyalty: £250K on 23 Peugeots

I think most people on here the 'problem' is that Peugeots are ugly, dull to drive, lardy, quite expensive (for what they are), fairly flimsy interiors and generally unreliable. In fact you give me one redeemable feature on a 308 for example?

Lots of French drivers would not agree with you and I cannot recall seeing rows of abandoned broken down Pugs on my visits to France.
As for what makes a good car, every person has their own opinion on that. The worst car I ever had was a BMW 320.
The best is my CRV
Oh, the 308 gets lots of people from A to B in relative comfort and speed. Would I buy one? Not at this stage of my life, but who knows what the future may bring.
Cars are generally very reliable these days and you dont see many broken down by the side of the road but in my experience if it does happen its usually a Peugeot or Renault. One that stands out recently is seeing a nearly new Peugeot on a demo run with customers in it broken down at traffic lights, the car was from the same dealer that told me when i called for a quote on parts for my 306 Rallye a few years ago that they didn't make a 306 Rallye!quote]

Obviously its his money and he can spend it on what he likes but i can see why people would question why.

Getting someone from A-B, is not a redeemable, or valid reason. Every car sold today in the UK does that.quote]

The point i'm making is that there are so many, and i mean many, ways of doing it better. Never mind the 308 being no where near the class leaders (Focus, Golf, Astra) it doesn't even come close to cars like the Octavia, Leon...etc.... does it. I never said it would break down by the side of the road, but just going by the annual driver surveys (of which there are many) most (if not all!) Peugeots are languishing at the bottom - with reliability an issue.
I understand people have other opinions and if you want a 308, or any Peugeot for that matter, then buy it. But there are so many better cars out there - that is why most people on here seem to dislike them...not even mentioning the fact that Peugeot are not the same as they used to be!
To be fair you have to look at the bigger picture
So what does this mean for the owner/buyer:-
1) Preferential treatment
2) Favourable discounts
3) Somebody in the dealership he consider a friend
The dealer has no incentive to offer anything else and I bet there are many similar circumstances where no reward has been offered at all.(Obviously doesn't harm their marketing/PR either )
The dealer gave them an experience day and a weekend in a car (no doubt a salesploy but again something you offer loyal customers).
I still think he is off his rocker for buying so many new cars (let alone Pug!) but thats an aside.
PS: What is it with Peugeot 406 Estate Diesels - are they invincible? One of my neighbours replaces it with the same car every 5 years or so (and seemingly does large mileages inbetween).

talk about exclusivity...the UK's only 508 owner, I'd never heard of one!
You see quite a lot in France, well I do, and they look quite nice in a Volvo sort of way Probably a car for wafting around in the back of though, rather than driving.
Ignoring this being Peugeot (And the rather mean 'reward'), who buys a new car nearly every year? Maybe he gets a great deal trading them in every year? Might not be as daft as it seems.

Maybe it does everything that he needs from a car.(Not all of the buying public are as savvy as those on here think they are.)I am considered somewhat stupid for trading my S2000 for an SLK 200,but guess what, it is a better proposition for me right now.Easier to drive and far more comfortable. The point i'm making is that there are so many, and i mean many, ways of doing it better. As for the annual reliability surveys,I have to laugh. The S2000 came top for many years, can you guess how? No mention of perforated soft tops and self destructing MY2009 engines.

Is that sign behind the ladies head spelt wrong ??
Yes, probably, the sign behind the lady's head is definitely spelled incorrectly.. Sadly I remember this accident, a young nurse called Kelly.
It was neither the Disco or the Pug that caused the accident that killed her but a crack in the cheap aftermarket alloys that deflated the front tyre.
The accident didn't cut through the pillars - the Fire Brigade did when attempting to remove the occupants. You cannot keep firemen away from their toys - they'll cut people out of a car if the lock is "a bit stiff"
Jaws of death and prybars come out of every pocket as they rend and bend in the name of 'safety'
Mind you - if you do run into 2+ tonnes of '2 cars in one' you're always going to come-off worse - but the amount of ste talked in this thread generally - the amount of sneering from people who've nothing to sneer over - is really quite sad - so failing to notice where accident damage came from is hardly the worst thing is it?

While it wouldnt be my choice, many of the replies here give me a stale taste in my mouth. I hope he doesnt come on here and a look happy to have his name in the "paper"... He is happy with driving around in new pugs, the 250 grand total obviously includes all family members cars, doesnt account for trade-in etc..
So he spent perhaps 80.000 in total in the last 20 years, stop the press..so what.
Peugeots arent that bad at all. Perhaps not the cream of the crop, but decent average cars...

I'll end up like this guy, i've only owned Peugeots over the last 10 years
But how many have you had from new?As a family dads had three 205's and a 306 before going on to an A4, cheap fun commuter car.
We're had a 806 (big cost effective box on wheels) and I now also have a 306, which as a cheap large hatch is faultless.
However, total expenditure over 20years on that is about a tenth of what this blokes spent, and not a drop has got to a dealer.

the Peugeot UK PR departement than the sanity of the recently
retired "Bobby".
Seing people who face up to own Ecorts and Nissan Cherries smack
the guy for buying Peugeots during the last 20 years is beyond me.
Why Peugeot mailed that bit of info nationwide is beyond me, too.
Is he the only repeat customer left in the country?
VW must have tons of the same sort.
Buying a new car every year from the same dealer might be the concept
of a long lost era, but it isn't neccessarily the least efficient one.
That Peugeot built some cracking cars during that time might be
beyond the average "pistonhead", though.
