Got quoted £8k minimum for a big end replacement on a MR2 Roadster by a Toyota dealer. And no guarantee that it would fix the problem.

Had a replacement engine fitted for £1.5k (including parts) by a specialist in the end.

Relative to value, we had a customer with an old E300D Estate that we told her was worth £350 in p/x, she then proceeded to spend £7k in the workshop on it instead - it had the worst bodywork of any car we've had in a long time, however mechanically it's spot on.

She said the sentimental value was worth the expenditure to her!

In fairness it will probably now well outlive her!

Supercar repair bills are one thing, but I had to quote some poor sod £2.5K for a turbo on his old Land Cruiser today! God knows what his final bill will be. More than the car is worth I would imagine.
£2.5k? For a turbo?
I know! I couldn't believe it either. By far the most expensive one I've ever come across.
Thats nuts! would expect it to be not a particularly fancy one on a landcruiser either!

I expect the bill Chris Evans will get when Ferrari have finished with his GTO (they've already had it 18 months I think) will be very, very big.

What are they doing? Mugging him off I suspect. They could have manufactured a new one from scratch in half that time.

Surely warranty bills aren't quite the same as a customer paying out of their own pocket.

£8000-00 !!?!!

This has made me spill my tea. How on earth did they attempt to justify such a monumental sum.

£8000-00 ?!?!? MINIMUM ?!?!?

I'd have guessed a new engine would be no more than 5k. It's only a common jap 4 pot FFS!

Well precisely. I was being generous to reflect the "Main dealer" setting. eBay for a grand...
