As it's got to be an auto, avoid the 2009-11 (I think) current model Jazz as it had a clutchless manual. Honda recently switched back to CVT. The previous model is CVT and it's fine.

My parents bought a Fabia partially on the basis that it's really easy to get in and out. They're very pleased with it and it's quite good fun on the backroads.

Hyundai Getz? Some are fairly well equipped, lots of autos about too.

Not that it will help. When my mum asked me for advice she then ignored and bought a Ka because it looked nice.

Yes to all that, although I'm not sure the seats are heated. But if you can't be arsed to look it up then I don't see why I should.

I wasn't saying someone else should look, was more a curious pondering as to if anyone had them.

Only Jazz'/Jazz's/Jizz I've ever seen are bog spec. "hello Mr Honda, I want the cheapest Jizz you have on stock please" sort of thing

For five grand you're looking at a 1st generation Jazz (2003 - 2008) I think. No Hybrid option with that one.

The top spec is the Sport (no, seriously, that's what they called it) which is the one with the bodykit.

I don't think the equipment list is particularly extensive, it has a CVT box with 7 stepped ratios, it'll do 44mpg, it has climate control but I don't remember ever seeing leather seats in a Mk 1 Jazz. That's probably more Fabia territory perhaps.

Jazz is cheap, small but roomy, as reliable as any other car you can think of, and cleverly packaged. It's also very easy to get in an out of, I notice that and I'm not even 40 yet. It isn't especially quiet or luxurious, it's more practical, simple but effective. It's a Ronseal car I guess.

They go from about 10 to about 20 grand, so they cover quite a wide range now.

I don't think people do generally buy the cheapest - without looking it up, that's probably a 1.2S. My missus has a 1.4EX and a lot seem to be that model - it stands out as it has the glass roof. The 1.4SE was probably the most popular of the previous model, but it was a more limited model range then.

Cool.

Sorry should of stated, I wasn't being "stereotypical" was speaking of those I know with the car.

None have the latest gen, all the one before, and all have the "wipe clean" spec as I'd call it. AC, 1x 1.4 others smaller lump, boggo interior, and cubby holes a plenty

.....

Jazz is cheap, ...
£5K should buy a 2006 1.4SE CVT although a Honda dealer would probably want another £1K.

I don't think they're cheap - it's a whole other argument, but I'm never sure it's a good idea to pay £5-6K for a 6 year old car. Keep it 3 years and it's likely to be pretty worthless, so you still lose quite a bit of money, and you may have spent a fair bit on the way in maintenance.

While Jazz is a good car - wifey had a 2003 for 6 years and then she wasn't interested in looking at anything when we got the current model in 2009 - it's recommended not to overpay for older ones.

The old Jazz felt like it would last for ever, but the new one rides better and has much better seats.

Nissan Note 1.6 SE Auto, my mum (65 years old) loves her 06 plate, its well equiped, goes well, rides nicely, loads of room for golf clubs/grand children/dogs/old dears. She had a bad accident in a 206SW and is a bit less mobile now and finds the Notes's interior proportions & wide door access really suits her. My only worry is that I believe its got some Renault(modus) bits in it, I steered her towards the Jazz & the extra cost, but my mum fell in love with the colour of the Note........metalic copper. Thats logic!

You are right, they aren't cheap to buy second hand, but they do seem to hold their value well.... don't they?
they're quite expensive to service too but there's a good chance they won't need any other attention than the annual service, and they're cheapish on fuel, cheap on tax, cheap on insurance.

But then again, you've run one, I've only researched the cost of running one, then ignored my research and bought a Note instead.

Jazz or Note.

Looked at Notes for my M in L last year but wasn't impressed by interior quality particular seats.

M in L went for a Getz in the end against my advice. However decent Jazz's were few and far between within a decent radius. The Getz has been very reliable and she did get an 08 reg for the price of an 04/05 Jazz. Still got warranty until Sept '13 as well.

Jazz seems like a good call. There must be a reason that half of the OAPs in the land seem to drive them.

I've heard many horror stories about the original A class and all the reviews say it isn't much good even when it is working, so I wouldn't touch one with a barge pole myself.
