Do I put a private reg plate on my 12 plate Mercedes?!
Discussion
Hi guys,
I've bought myself a new mercedes SLK 2012, 1 week ago. I have a private plate, I'm not going to exactly state what the plate is but it's similar to "10 LA", so in that format.
I'm just wondering shall I cover my 12 plate up by putting the private plate on or what?
What are your opinions?

Yes, great plate, put it on.
Hmm, but I've asked some people and they said "Don't put it on, put it on in a years time and show off the 12 plate"Really don't know what to do!
Plus the plate cost me a bomb too, so I just don't want it on retention or something for a year because it will seem like a waste.

I wouldn’t bother with the private plate – surely you want people to know that you’re rich/successful enough to be able to afford a brand new Merc?
Personally, I’d drive everywhere at walking pace whilst being accompanied by a marching band - complete with foxy ladies in leotards hurling batons in the air, 6 elephants and 4 men on stilts, whilst a town crier announces “ brand new merc coming through, PLEASE CLEAR THE WAY FOR THE NEW MERC”.
Otherwise people might not realise that you’ve got a new car, and you wouldn’t want that now, would ya?
Or you could just enjoy your new wheels and get on with life.

The sort of people who are impressed by having the number 12 on a number plate are not the kind of people I would want to impress. You have to decide that for yourself though.
Just having a snoop and see you had to choose between a Cayman and a diesel SLK. An odd two to compare I'd have thought

So you've got a brand new car, and a great (valuable) plate - put the plate on the car!
If you leave it as a 12 reg, some people might think it's not yours, just leased or on crippling finance. If it's got your plate on, you're showing everyone you are proud of your car AND your plate.
Just my 2p-worth...
Oh, and pics please!

You have an SLK and are worried about what people think of you by the plate on it
This is a low day for PH!

If anyone was that interested they could remember your private reg number and put it through the internet and check if it is really a 12-plate.
Or they could get a life.
OP are you really concerned about people knowing you have a brand new car? 'cos that sort of answers the question doesn't it?

Really don't know what to do!
Seriously?Really don't know what to do!
How about getting THIS CAR IS A 2012 AND COST LOTS OF MONEY!" signwritten on it if it's that important to you that people know.
Or how about a simple "I AM CONSIDERABLY RICHER THAN YOW" across the rear bumper?
I think a price tag fluttering from the aerial would be a nice touch too, just to make sure the proletariat get the message.
