my N reg Corsa is covered in dents and scratches but it's so old repairing it was not an option. it looks tatty but it's been a good car with only 27,000 mileage. just wanted something with a bit more power.

you have all been very helpful. the site was recommended by a reliable friend :-)

It way simply need a proper, all four wheels adjusted, alignment. Saying that they think that it isnt straight doesnt fill me with any confidence unless they can show you how and why.

If they can see a seam thats moved or a riple or similar, then fair enough, but if it 'feels' wrong when its been driven then its not a deal more than idle talk.

An alignment on my MX-5 tomorrow would transform it and it isnt a repaired accident damaged car. For the £60-odd that a specialist will charge itd certainly by my first step - if they cant adjust all four wheels to factory settings TEHN worry about it needing more work.

OP: ve only read the first post so I may be echoing what others have said but... If you have the V5C then CatC status will be recorded there and it cant be removed. If you dont have the V5C then call VOSA and theyll tell you if you will need a VIC. f you dont need a VIC then it was a CatD, if you do then it was a CatC or maybe even a CatB.

Even if it is bent then itll probably be possible to starighten it on a jig, which isnt nearly as big a deal as you may think.

Even if it was a CatD then the salvage dealer probably gave it a bit of a nudge to make it look nicer (but not jigged it properly, this is disreputable but common practice) so it may have been repaired by someone who thought that it was straight, when it wasnt, quite.

I hope that this helps, but Im not going to get drawn into a silly argument with copy & pasters who tell me that CatB cars cant ever go back on the road, and other nonsense..... wink
Cat C as far as I'm aware can be changed, have spoken to somebody who has done this with these people http://www.autoligninspections.co.uk/index.html

I'm interested in finding out whats required for a cat B to get back on the road if you could point me in the right direction. Not looking for arguments etc.

Sorry for thread hijack

I'm sorry but have no idea re. the Cat B thing. had enough trouble finding out about the Cat D or Cat C thing. hope you manage to find what you need to know. Start a fresh topic, must be someone out there who knows

You simply buy them (the tricky part, as itll break the vendors contract) and then repair them, MOT them and submit them for VIC.

You USED to be able to get cars removed from the 'condition alert' register via an Autolign check, but Autolign were shafted by HPI and from the start of their new contract in, I think, April in 1995 an Autolign pass only enables the vehicle to be moved onto the 'condition inspected' register, so the stigma remains for the most part and Autoligns business shrunk massively.
