Loving these, guessing one on the Left is E500 and the one n the right is the even rarer E60 AMG. Either way I need one in my life!

I think you're right- you can tell by the extra fog/driving lights in the bottom valance.

I went last year and there's so much to see it actually started to make my brain hurt after a while- talk about sensory overload!

Mercedes have started selling the 'youngtimers' at the museum dealership in Stuttgart, when I went there they had quite a few from 124 age back to 70's cars, supposed to be restored back up to pretty much good as new condition, with the price tag to boot.

Why dont they make cars like this any more. Its so classy, it hurts...

I'm off to scour ebay for Merc E300s.

Correction -> 300E s

Actually, you were right first time - they are Exxx not xxxE as they are facelift 124s. However, they won't be 300s (if 6-cyl petrol); 280 or 320 by this stage.

Er, I'll get my coat...
The blue black metallic car in the foreground is an E500. It looks gorgeous. I love w124s. A matching set is, indeed, the dream. All smoke silver for me. Sad man.

Not long got back. It's huge, and my feet hurt.

You know it's a good show when you get tired of seeing, and lose count of, Gullwing 300SLs. Personal favourite was probably the 275GTB. Or the Ghibli Spider: a snip at a mere €315,000. Or the numerous C1, C2 and C3 Corvettes. Or the...

Park n ride costs €7, takes <10 minutes. Tickets €20. Lots of Bratwurst. Takes about 3-4 hrs from Dunkirk (cheaper ferry crossing with DFDS), no road tolls. DO IT!

Just got back from this show, brilliant show and my third time going. Seems to be a young following catching on as well which is great (I'm only 26). Now more than ever I can think of nothing worse than going to some of the poor shows we put on over here to stare at some Jap cars that some little prat knocked about in his garage while reading a copy of fast car. Anyway I've come back not wanting to see another bratwurst for some time and feeling the urge to buy a Porsche.

Sorry, that one was an E60. The other's an E500

There were a couple of other 500Es over there too:

You don't see too many of those! I couldn't tell from the front. What a wonderful car, I want it even more now. I especially like the wheels.

Is it easy enough to get about over there and figure out whats going on, without speaking a word of German? I'd love to go and thats the only thing that bothers me.

Very easy. I speak hardly any German, but when asking anybody "Sprechen zie English?" they all did (sorry if that's the wrong spelling!)

I bought my ticket in advance for €30 incl postage, but many people were paying in on the day

I flew to Dusseldorf, which has a little free mono-rail to the trainstation. €22 for a return ticket to Essen Messe, where the show is held. So it's 25 minutes to Essen Main Station (Essen HBF), then drop down to the underground and get the metro to Essen Messe Ost station (5 mins) and you're there

I got there about 11am, so had a browse about for 2 hours, then got some lunch, then spent the rest of the afternoon looking around again. People very friendly and interested in talking away about their cars and clubs (I'm a BMW/Alpina guy, but had some great conversations in English with the Porsche, Audi and Merc folks too)

Only did the day myself, so headed back to Dusseldorf airport about 6:30pm for some food and a couple of wiessebiers, and was home in Dublin by 11pm. Great day out, definitely recommended!

Moreso than many/most UK shows.
The organisation is brilliant: well-signed, people waving you around to the various car parks etc, etc. The signs are in German and English, and the Germans are, as always, helpful and welcoming. The majority of people speak English to a high standard too, so you only need ask smile

Puts the NEC and the ExHELL to shame, really.

Simple in a word.

Google maps for the route.

250 miles from Calais [about 4 hours]and i didn't get lost once

Left the car in a random sidestreet for the day and walked to the exhibition hall.

German phrase book and as above "Sprechen sie English ?"
