That's a good point I would in effect be paying the monthly finance early before I have the car....

Dealing with this as well as incompetant travel agents has really put a pisser on my day.
yes, its a bizarre request really as they are effectively asking you to start paying interest on finance you haven't received yet....
you should go to wonga.com and work out what the charges on that size of "pay day loan" would be, as that's effectively what they are asking you to do

I would imagine that for them to claim it this quarter they will also want the car registered this month, meaning when you do get your new car it will already be a few weeks old - if you see what I mean? Might also affect your finance payments too (which I'm assuming you need as you only mention a deposit).

What car have you ordered and how much discount did you get?

It's a 1 series coupe, discount wise. A very good discount to be honest so asking them to wipe out the remaining deposit etc is probably a tad unreasonable.

Hmmm, coupes have less margin/discount to play with than saloons. I'd expect 5% between discount and over allowance on a part ex.

Great wee cars though. Which engine/spec?

They can always say "No" and miss their targets

There's a lot of car salesmen defending their trade on this thread!

This is BMW's cock-up, not the OP's. Therefore BMW have to fix it.

It's simple, they either accept their cock-up will mess up their quarterly sales figure. Or they convince the OP to help them out. And the OP would then expect something in return to help them out.

BMW is a business, not a charity.

No part ex involved although discount was MUCH greater than 5%.

Went for the 118D, never had a diesel before and loved it when I test drove one back in January!

Spec wise it's pretty good, alpine white with boston red leather, xenons, Harman Kardon, full bluetooth, pro HU, heated seats, USB, extended storage, front and rear PDC, rain sensor/auto headlight, cruise control, 18" wheels, folding mirrors, heated seats.

Unfortunately the 1 series come in awful spec as standard hence the ridiculous spec list I 'had' to go for..

I'd give them a simple choice OP:

1. They register the car early for their figures and you keep the balance of the deposit.

2. You wait for the car and pay the balance of deposit on handover.

Your choice whether you want a courtesy car if you opt for option 1.

Good luck.

Don't understand some people on here implying the op is greedy or a chancer.

BMW failed to meet the agreed delivery date, they also want the op to start paying finance on a motor he hasn't even got! fk em get everything you can out of them what's the worst they can do say no?

I have just gone back to them and said pretty much this, although a nice hire car would be great I am going on holiday in May and could do with more money for dollars so this seems the most sensible way to go.

I know, bloody criminals promised the car late March and it's delayed until early April, could be at least 2 or 3 days late. Make um pay, I say.

First rule of sales is under promise and over deliver.

BMW have literally done the complete opposite.

I would also ensure you have it in writing that you are still able to refuse the car at point of delivery if there is something wrong with it.

Delaying the car a few days is not the issue, according to the OP. He can live without it for a while.

Asking him to cough up early to cover their mistake is cheeky IMO, if they are not offering any leeway on their side. Scratch my back, scratch yours etc.
