An unusually high proportion of the S2000s I have seen have been In Ditches / Pointing the wrong way / stopped at the side of the road with panels hanging off.

Hence why their insurance rating is approximately equal to a Zonda.

Right, where shall I start.

The TT is (admittedly) the best looking of the bunch, but I just see it as a re bodied Golf so would give it a thumbs down.

The Z4 will have the smoothest engine due to being a 2.0 I6, but it isn't fun in any way at all, especially compared to the MX5 and S2000, and the ride is crap.

The MX5 is a really, really good car, it looks good, has nice engines, is very reliable, has reasonable running costs, and will be a whole heap of fun.

The S2000 is the most fun IMO, looks nice, has the best engine and is also be reliable due to it being a Honda, and have reasonable running costs (if your sister can refrain from using VTEC constantly!).

I would personally go for this:
1. S2000
2. MX5
3. Z4
4. TT

Pretty sure the 2.0 is a I4... Whilst I have a bit of a soft-spot for Z4's, I don't think the 2.0 is the one to go for. Although, in this case they have a good badge, they look quite a bit more modern / expensive than other cars listed here, so maybe not so bad after all.

I guess this sort of stupid attitude is to blame for Boxsters being relatively cheap...

My mate said the same thing while looking for a two seater "Why would I want a bottom of the range Porsche?". He got a 2.0 Z4 in the end and I havent stopped mocking him since.

Why did he buy the 2.0ltr? You need the I6 be it 2.5 or 3.0ltr and price isnt vastly different. It's hood down driving and you want to hear that engine sing not some crept four banger.

You need to find out more.

I own an s2000, to me it's bloody fantastic, the best out of your list.

HOWEVER, it's fairly cheap to run if you compare to other sports cars. But compared to say an mx5 it will cost an awful lot more. The insurance is quite often double than other cars in its class, as it will spit you out if you drive it like a fwd hot hatch.

I get mid 20's mpg but I bought it to exploit the full 9k revs. If taken easy you can scrape 30mpg.

BMW z4 feels very cruiser in comparison, a friend has a 3.0i. It's as quick but it just doesn't feel as willing to turn in.

You're right (on both counts). The Z3 2.0 however was an I6. You'll need the 3.0i Z4 in my opinion (same running costs as the 2.5i so discount that one).

Having had both, the cooking Z4 is a better all round car for trips, commuting etc but the S2000 makes a better weekend warrior.

I doubt at that kind of money you could buy a decent S2000, the only other option for me would be the MX5, and you can have the pick of a fair few nice cars for that kind of money.

The MX5 meets her stated criteria best, but if she's driven one and didn't like it, you should advise her to buy something else - simples (as I believe the modern vernacular would have it), since it's going to be an emotional, not a rational purchase anyway.

For a girl I'd say the Z4 with the 2.5/3.0ltr and the best alloys looks the best.

I doubt she is a track girl as she would know which one to choose.

TT bin that idea seriously old looking cars very dated now infect the new shape one is due a change too while the S2000 is a unique model and the Z4 really makes the Z3 look past it

The facelift Z4 2.2i is slower (obviously) but more economical than the 3.0 - it's an I6 too.

The above is the reason is why the MX5 is a better bet if running costs are a priority, insurance will be much cheaper and perhaps servicing should be as well.

Indy servicing on 5s is, in relative terms, buttons.
