Rac warranty what a load of rubbish when I bought my x5 thought I'll have warranty as parts can be really expensive the sales man said I would never have to worry everything was covered so far it has cost me £1000 for new handbrake £1500 for new turbo and now £500 for new air suspension all of which they say are not covered by the warranty stay away from this warranty it's not worth the paper it's printed on

Do not take out the warranty. My water pump went, resulting in it and my timing belt having to be changed on my 2013 plate seat ibiza at only 41,000 miles. I only purchased the car 4 months ago and had 12 months platinum warranty at £220 extra cost. Total costs using one of their 'approved' mechanics cost £500 + Vat (£600 total)

RAC paid out £235.00 towards this. Slashing labour costs and the parts cost. Try dispute it on the phone......you talk to a women who knowns nothing about cars, nothing really about whats happened, all she can do is read the payout on the screen. As 9/10 people need their car for daily life they know you are going to pay to get it fixed right away. I've had to contact the dealership i purchased it from to try gain some money back from them as a 'missed sold policy.

a trader I know offers 6 month warranty on his used cars, helps sell them.it costs £30 per car! so on that I would assume the warranty is't going to pay out much on any claim.
Myself I had a peugeot warranty on a 106d {back in 1998},car did 14,000miles the cylinder head went, had a bill of £1600 a lot back then,as the warranty did't cover learner drivers.{the car was my driving school car, despite them offering and fitting He-man dual controls, and the sales guy saying how amazing on fuel these were, and that loads of driving instructors were buying them
took the dealer to small claims court in the end,did win the case but would rather if they just fixed the car in the first place under warranty.
A 6 month warranty for £30?? Wow.

Most of our warranties cost between £300-£500 for 6 months. Then again ours actually do exactly what they say..
Throttle body actuator on an M3
Lambda sensors on an V8 Vantage
Sunroof motor on a Cayenne to name a few.

Don't car dealers have to fix anything that goes wrong within 6 months under the sale of goods act anyway? Selling you 6 months warranty is a bit of a rip off.

I bought a TT from Car Giant a few years ago, and they took it back to fix a list of items 4 months after I bought it, even though I didn't buy the AA warranty they were flogging.

Bought a RAC gold warranty with low mileage Landrover 3 in August 2017. Dealer promised the world. Parking brake seized 2 months later. Took to main Landrover dealer and guess what, RAC state no handbrake componemets are covered at all - in any make of car. Mechanic equally frustrated by RAC response. Repair estimate £1200 plus vat. So have to pay £200 to have it put back together again unfixed. So when collecting car I thought I would mention the passenger seat belt sensor fault. All sensors covered. Great. But no, RAC state part failure leading to immobilisation of car only. Seat belt sensor does not immobilise car. What a cop out. Total waste of £450 for policy. Will now take to my local garage (who refuses to do any warranty work due to time wasting and non payment by warranty companies) and hopefully pay a lot less. Would never have taken out such a rip off warranty had I had chance to read it first. Far better off banking the £450 cost.

Bought a Merc ml 320 Cdi last November from Oakwood cars Whitley bay on the way home noticed a noise from the front near side sounded like a bearing, took it back they said it's the tyres ?? Easy solution so changed tyres noise still there don't worry if it gets worse bring it back you've got an RAC warranty. 4000 miles later car locks up had it recovered back to Oakwood and they wouldn't let recovery driver unload it. Luckily RAC stood on and let driver take to another garage. Now the fun starts who's responsible for the repair Oakwood or RAC ???? It was not right when Oakwood sold it so it should be them, in the mean time I've no car !!

I took one out on my Cayman s after being promised the world by the dealership.

They didn’t have the terms and conditions leaflet available but when Rac sent them through I cancelled the policy under the 14 day cooling off period it read like a list of so many exclusion I just knew they would never pay and had a maximum labour rate of £40 including VAT. You try finding a decent garage that works for that rate.

What a ball ache. Took about a month to get the money refunded with the dealership and the RAC both blaming each other. In the end I got both parties on a conference call and explained that if the money wasn’t refunded in 24 hours I would be going to small claims and spreading it all over social media for both the RAC and the dealership.

Dealer caved and gave me the money back. RAC then paid me back as well. Soon had said dealer on the phone asking for his cash. I made him wait a few days as the delay from the RAC was in part due to him not responding to the RAC. I assume the dealership are on a commission and he wasn’t happy with me cancelling so I gave him a bit of his own medicine.

Have a 6 month gold warranty that came with my xc70.

2 months ago the front and rear passenger side locks stopped working. Took to local indipendant garage who diagnosed issue and RAC paid full cost which was £480!

I have spoken to them said can you not go halfway answer no you have no claim
The warranty is 3 months and is still within time I can now only try and get the dealer to pay toward the cost . I was going to buy a 3 year warranty glad I did not

Very much a thread bump, but does anyone have any recent experience of the RAC Warranty? It's sold by quite a few dealers and looking at the list of covered parts appears quite comprehensive.

Does make me a little suspicious when the BMW warranty is £700 a year and the RAC one is £1000 for 3 years, mind.

Always ask for a copy of the Policy T&C's. Read them.

Google Lord Flasheart BMW M5 engine. That’s about all I can say on here or the mods will delete/ban me.

Not RAC in that case but goes to show the lengths they go to so they don’t have to pay out. Reading that thread was the final straw for me and I’ve set up a rainy day savings account ever since. Now have a few £K in a savings pot.

Only warranty worth having is a manufactures backed one.
