Perhaps I'm cold and uncaring, but I'm personally finding the spectacle of a respectable car company going slowly but surely nuts quite entertaining. Say what you will about Lotus news but it's always good for starting arguments.

While not to many peoples tastes Mansory are good at what they do. However it does seem like an odd partnership for a brand like Lotus - I'd understood their brand image to be simple cars with great handling.
Which they don't make any money selling. Quite frankly their be mad to continue as they are.

I think teaming up with a stylist is entirely the right thing to do, since that's one of the things that Lotus themselves do worst, but why pick someone known for making rather tasteless bolt-on bits for supercars rather than someone who can design good-looking cars from scratch. Surely a tie-up with Pininfarina or similar would make made a lot more sense?

They want in on the Asian market, you cannot survive just selling the odd car to geeks, that killed off TVR.

Perhaps Mansory have agreed to buy 100 cars a year and in return get 'partner' status.

I am going out for a long walk in the woods where I intend to shout and hit things. Then I will look at pictures of my S1 Elise from 1998 and remember the good times. I was bewildered by the Bahar Lotus at first: then confused, then irritated - then sad. Now I'm just angry.
100% agree with your sentiment. Sadly, there are many on this forum who think to be successful Lotus need to chase new world money and design cars for them. Oh dear ....but given up trying to argue with them. All I know is that as a customer of Lotus four times, I will not be buying another one under existing management. Travesty what is happening to the brand.

Lightweight Lotus' shed in heavy Mansory kits and ridiculous wheels is a complete calamity. It's like Ariel partnering with Khan 'Design'.

0/10.

I don't see this as such a negative to be honest, car companies like this appeal more to the general public/footballers. Lotus are purist cars, they want to break into that market so why not? Not too many business savy on PH is there.

The fact it's pissing the purists off is pretty much proving its working. Most of the posters in here might buy a second hand Elise, evora etc but I doubt many on this thread or on this forum would buy a brand new one.

So why should lotus pander to your needs?

Also they're not stopping the exige or basic evora and Elise's so all you existing 'hardcore' fans will still be able to compare co2 and depreciation with Colin chapmans finest before you end up buying your 335d's/A5's. They are making the woah lairy cars to appeal to the new money masses. The guys that will keep hethel humming.

Some of the reactions in this thread are bordering on embarrassing

There is certainly an element of truth to that, although there are a lot of new Lotus buyers on Pistonheads. Manufacturers can't afford to ignore the second-hand market though, if no-one wants a car second-hand, no-one will buy it new.

Still, Lotus seem to have to somehow move into new markets and I suspect that realistically means ditching most of their existing customer base. Are there enough people who like Mansory type styling to support a brand? Who knows, but there clearly aren't enough handling enthusiasts so I suppose anything has got to be better than their current approach from a business point of view.

I think the old Lotus fans/customers have just got to accept that Lotus doesn't really seem to be interested in their custom any more. There are other brands that are doing what Lotus used to (most obviously Ginetta), so it's not the end of the world.
