I was in the outside lane going onto M5, chap stuck in stationary traffic in the middle lane pulled out and hit me just as I went past.

Nice. Hope you're ok. Some clown in a van nearly pulled out into me this morning. How he didn't hit me I'll never know. Hope you get it sorted.

By outside lane you mean the left lane or lane1?
outside lane usually means the right most lane

If anyone cant see the google map it's a roundabout so outside is lane1 smile

How did he hit you on the offside if he was in the middle lane and you were in the outside lane? I know I'm missing something obvious but I'm not sure what?

Hope you get it sorted with the minimum hassle though, good luck!

Oouch. Presume that is your drivers side that got hit. If so, and you were passing him on the inside, despite it clearly benig his "fault" I suspect youa re in for a whole range of hassle from the insurance. Any witnesses? How fast were you passing him, ie relative speed if he was stationary?

It's a nasty wack and will be potentially a couple of grand plus to sort on insurance, depending on car part costs.

Looks like it was just a glancing blow, could have been a lot worse. Still, not what you need on a Wednesday morning. What did the other driver say?

FFS! Honestly! What's wrong with some of the people on here!?? Isn't it obvious which side of the car has been hit? Surely you don't need a diagram, satellite footage of the accident, an insurance investigators report etc to work out what happened!!!? Idiots rolleyes

Where does the OP mention which side of the car was hit? Has there been an edit or a deleted post, 'cos I can't see it.

Look at the photo of the car.

Then actually read the following posts to understand what happened.

This is a great example of how people read the first post then ignore the rest whilst wading in with their opinion like it's the only one that matters! biggrin

It looks like he was on a 3 lane roundabout
The outside lane lane 1 goes off down a slip road to the M5
That was free flowing with the OP in it.
The middle lane of the roundabout had stuck traffic. Someone decided to pull out left and their front left wing scrapes down the right side of the OP
For those who cant see photos

Thanks! Outside lane of roundabout! I knew I was missing something obvious.

I'm still struggling slightly.
Surely the OP must have been on the inside lane to be hit on off-side?

Whatever the details, looks a right pita.
Hopefully no injuries, could have been worse.

I have seen so many drivers do similar, making the assumption that because they are stationary everyone else must be too.

youre confusing outside with offside redcard
on a roundabout the outer lane is lane 1 and is to left or nearside
the inside lane of a roundabout is lane 3 and right or offside
all clear yes

Really?

I had always just stuck with lanes being the same.

I think we need pictures or a powerpoint presentation. I thought I was getting it until you helped, now I'm even more lost. It's like strapping a piece of buttered toast to the back of your cat and dropping, the world rules can't cope and will explode.
