I do think late 80s early 90s had a certain acceptance to the girth like dimmas, mattig Astra/calibra and warrior kit mk3/4 escorts.
The Mattig Astra kit was horrendous. I love a Rouse Sport Sierra etc etc...but that Mattig Astra kit was horrendous. The Astra GTE was a fine looking car, it didn't need to look like a poor copy of a Sierra Cosworth.

Someone above mentioned TT's, yes, they have took a bit of a blow for me. Always liked the look of them, went and bought one and it turned out to be a pile of rubbish. Decent enough to drive, dismally made.

in my late 20s and early 30s, I used to think Imprezas and EVOs and other Banzai Jap cars were the coolest things going. Now, quite a few years later, when they have been mostly bought up by the boy racer brigade and come with dustbin sized exhausts, dump valves etc and go around harrassing other motorists I really really dont like them! I know its the driver, not the car, but most modified jap stuff really turns me off these days. Anyone else got any cars that they've turned against, in this way!
Nope none at all.

Impreza's and Evo's were modded from new, so sounds more like you are getting old and grumpy more so than the cars changing ownership hehe

secound gen Audi s3s, used to think they were brilliant, a proper sleeper to people who dont know what they were

alas they are now " affordable" buy the wrong sort of people, and are driven aggressively all the time and full of chavvy pricks

the new impreza, i think so. especially now mk1s can be had for under £4k

Completely agree, my dad had a 304R.
Anything 'max power' just killed the image of any car that was covered.
You've got to admit there was a lot of width going on in the 80s though. I remember seeing a 500sec with a testarossa type body kit and it must have been 16 miles wide!!

If you judge cars based on the people who drive them you won't like your Passat after you've seen what the dubbers/stanceyo types are doing to them

I really used to lust after one of these -

Now they look so dated, generally slammed, wearing chav alloys, twin fart cans out the back and driven by kernts.

Having said that - if I found a factory original.... scratchchin

Non R32 mk4s simply have one of the worst chassis ever put in ANY mainstream car.

Utterly agree

On the subject i used to love Imprezas...oh wait i still do,same for the EVO's apart from X.

Dodge Vipers and generally american muscle cars, when i was a kid they were everything,i thought a Viper was faster than a F1 car and totally freaked out when first saw the GTS-R concept at the time, now i think they are a heap of junk.

I had a soft spot for Golf GTI's too, always thought they were (mk1 and mk2) the best hot hatches ever, and used to love the mk5 when came out,now have completely changed mind.

I havent seen a Fiesta RS for years!

The early meganes, yellow with the light covers... I loved them when I was a kid, now I look back on it and shudder.
Regarding Fiesta RS Turbo, have a read through if you have the time:

I think they fall into the same category as Fiesta supersports, XR2s and mk3/4 XR3is.
Apologies for the Ford theme.

... You probably wouldn't bother either.

Rust, leaky sunroof, head gasket failures (yes rover fans, I know you will claim it doesnt happen but it does...), cheap and poorly put together interiors and just otherwise generally a bit crap.

I would know. I owned one after lusting for one for years. Never own your dream car, unless it really is a good one.

Actually, the Dimma kits I don't mind, as really you're just making your car look like a groupB/maxi rally car, whenever someone links a picture of an ur Quattro that's wide arched/chopped to look like a sport Quattro people fawn over them confused

On a personal note, I can only think of one (sort of) & that's the Elise/Exige.

Loved them, lusted after them, bought an Exige & never again. Certainly not a terrible car but really not to my taste.

Only one I can think of it the old style Mini

I desparately wanted one as my first car, had all the plans to tart it up to look like a cooper - right up to the point where I went and sat in one I was looking at buying and decided there was no way I could drive one every day and that they were actually a bit rubbish.

Another vote for the Evos, always wanted one when I was a teenager, but when I could afford one I didn't even consider buying one.

I think my list of cars that I used to hate/loath that I now would love to own is much bigger though...

Around the time Alain Menu was sticking them on the podium race after race in the BTCC, I quite fancied getting a Renault Laguna. Guess that supports the old cliche, race 'em on a Sunday, sell 'em on a Monday...!
